I'm thinking of starting with a fondue. Any suggestions?
I have an electric fondue pot that I've never used (it's still in the box). I want to make a romantic dinner for this guy I've been dating for about a month. Things are still new between us, but I really like him a lot. He's away for military training and I miss him a TON! We text every other day, and I want to prepare a special dinner for him when he returns. So, I have this fondue pot and I want to use it. It's electric. Last time I made a fondue, I completely ruined it!!! I burnt the cheese because the Sterno flame was too high!! Anyhoo, I was discourage about fondue and haven't made it again since. Now, I have an electric pot that just plugs in...it should be easier, right. So here are my questions: 1. What's a nice light meal that can accompany a cheese fondue? I don't think that the fondue should be the meal. Not sure if it would be enough. 2. I know I'm not going to do a dessert (chocolate) fondue. My friend isn't too much into sweets and neither am I. 3. What's a simple cheese fondue recipe? 4. What are some simple dippers for the fondue? I know that bread is one choice. What else? 5. I'd like to keep this meal under $20. Is this possible, even with the alcohol that usually goes in a fondue? Any help is appreciated!# 2 really isn't a question...just a statement! Im doing a recipe for bbq chicken sandwiches and I don't know how to poach chicken? Can anyone give me directions on how to do this? Here's the recipe if needed: 1 cup chicken stock 1 bottle Mexican beer 4 pieces, 6 ounces each boneless, skinless chicken breast 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, 2 turns of the pan 2 cloves garlic, chopped 1 medium onion, peeled and finely chopped 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce, eyeball it 1 tablespoon hot sauce (recommended: Tabasco) 2 tablespoons grill seasoning blend (recommended: Montreal Steak Seasoning, by McCormick) 3 tablespoons dark brown sugar 4 tablespoons tomato paste 1 large sour deli pickle, chopped 6 to 8 slices sweet bread and butter pickles, chopped 6 soft sammy buns, such as soft burger rolls, split Directions Bring liquids to a simmer in a small to medium skillet and slide in the chicken breast meat. Gently poach the chicken 10 minutes, turning once about after 5 minutes. While chicken poaches, heat a second medium skillet over medium low heat. To hot skillet, add extra-virgin olive oil and garlic and onion and gently saute until chicken is ready to come out of poaching liquids. Combine the next 5 ingredients in a medium bowl and reserve. When the chicken has cooked through, add 2 ladles of the cooking liquid to the bowl, combining with the sauces, spices, brown sugar and tomato paste. Once the liquids and seasonings are combined, remove chicken, slice it, and transfer to the medium bowl. Using 2 forks, shred the chicken and combine with the liquids. Add the shredded chicken to the onions and garlic and combine well. Simmer together 5 to 10 minutes, using extra cooking liquids to make your chicken as saucy as you like. Combine sour and sweet pickles in a small bowl. Split rolls and fill with scoops of shredded chicken. Top with pickle relish and serve. moreResolved Question: Healthy Banana Bread Recipe?

While doing this “fascinating” project I found out many things about Ancient Romans. The main staple of their diets, especially for the poor, was very watered down wine and bread. They drank this watered down wine with every meal and put wine in many of their dishes. They also liked mead and bear. Honey was used in most dishes as a sweetener, sugar was rarely used. They also ate a lot of cheese but no milk. Drinking plain milk or plain wine was considered barbaric. The poor ate a lot of gruel and hardly ever meat, but the rich did eat some meat. There were no refrigerators so anything that needed kept cold was either heavily salted or fairly fresh. Mostly people ate whatever was available. Food was actually like today’s food except much simpler, also they didn’t have many things that weren’t indigenous to their country. So they couldn’t have things like Avocado Blueberries Cranberry Strawberry Chokecherry Concord grape Cactus pear Grapefruit Guava Papaya Passion fruit Pineapple Bell peppers Chile peppers Pumpkins Winter squashes Summer squashes Tomatillo Tomato Amaranth Corn (maize) Quinoa Wild rice Green beans Kidney beans Lima beans Peanut Chocolate Sassafras Vanilla Arrowroot Jerusalem artichoke Jicama Potato Sweet Potato Black walnut Brazil nut Hickory nut Macadamia •Pecan Rome did have diners, it is believed that during the Republic most women and the poor ate sitting on chairs, while upper class males reclined on their sides on couches along three sides of a table. Doing this is called a triclinium. Banquets might last for hours, eating and watching or listening to entertainers, so being able to stretch out without shoes, and relax would have enhanced the experience. Since there were no forks, diners would not have had to worry about coordinating eating utensils in each hand. Being a chef was difficult because they didn’t have ovens with heat controls and most recipes only gave very vague cooking times because of this. Romans had 3 meals a day, but the poor would usually only eat 2 one of which would be small. For those who could afford it, breakfast was eaten very early, and could consist of salted bread, wine, and dried fruit, eggs or cheese. Lunch was a quick meal, eaten around noon could include salted bread or be more elaborate with fruit, salad, eggs, meat and fish, vegetables, and cheese. Dinner was the main meal of the day, they would drink watered down wine, onions, porridge, pancake, and some of the things they ate at lunch. The upper class dinner might include meat, vegetable, egg, and fruit. Comissatio was a final wine course when the dinner ended. Movies sometimes depict ancient Romans as gluttons, but this is not true. Even the rich people ate only enough to keep them in good health, and wasted little food. There were even laws that regulated how much food people could buy. Appetizers 1as Bread and Cheese - A Selection of Breads and Rome’s finest Cheeses 1as Salad - A fine salad tossed with just the right amount of vinegar and salts. ok, i want to make a VERY DENSE, moist, sweet cake.....I am either going to use very ripe bananas or very ripe plantains, smash them and then incorporate them into the cake mixture... im kind of like making a humming bird cake, or banana bread (as far as texture goes).... so...I then thought about using very ripe plantains...ive eaten plantains my whole life, but only cooked so i dont know how a raw ripe plantain compares to a raw ripe banana bananas are good in cake recipes bc they are super sweet and really add to the dense and moistness of the cake... how do ripe plantains compare? for some reason, im assuming them to be less sweet and less dense....if that is the case, ill probably stick to using bananas instead.... please help! moreResolved Question: Indian chefs, please help!?
The Indian takeaway near me serves the most delicious Peshwari Naan bread. It's described as stuffed with dates, dried fruit and almonds. It is filled with the filling rather than mixed in the dough. I have been working on a replication of it at home and am close to what I tasted there. I figured out how to stuff the dough and I almost have the naan dough the way I like it. Could someone look over my recipe and see what, if anything, I could add. I'm thinking something more in the way of spice in the filling. Filling: dates golden raisins almonds ground coriander seed cloves cinnamon brown sugar orange oil extract How likely is it for my takeaway to have used any sugar? Dates are pretty sweet, as are raisins. Would they use other spices or flavorings, do you think? The dough I'm prefering is non-yeasted bread. flour--(I've been using unbleached white whole wheat--it's a softer whole wheat) salt baking powder baking soda yogurt oil leftover whey from making paneer Should I try graham flour or another flour or am i ok there? Thanks for your help!Yogesh, thank you for your helpful comments. I had been thinking cardamom but I can't find any at the store near me and so I tasted and smelled the coriander seed powder and it has a sweetness to it. It really doesn't take away from the flavor and in fact adds to it but if I can find cardamom, I will try that instead, at least once. Thank you for the very helpful leavening comments, too. I will take out the baking powder and soda and try it. I didn't realize the whey and citrus would help leavening. Good to know. I also used the whey mixed with water along with a half cinnamon stick to cook the basmati rice(lemon peel at the end of cooking) That came out delightful. I served it with palak paneer. I can't afford takeaway right now so I have to make it myself! Thank you again! :)Yogesh, thank you for your helpful comments. So what can I use instead. Is regular milk ok? Oh and do I need to mix the yeast by package directions before adding it to the bread machine? ThanksIts active dry yeast.
