This is a play i started writing when i was 13 years old. And this is the characters and the setting for it, please tell me what u think about it. Introduction of the Major Characters – All Animals 1. Silvan Squirrel – The Bravest Animal 2. Cooper Chipmunk – The Most Cowardly Animal 3. Rogan Rabbit – The Grumpiest Animal 4. Rebecca Robin – The Wisest Animal 5. Savannah Sparrow – The Most Talkative Animal 6. Gavin Groundhog – The Dumbest Animal Introduction of the Minor Animal Characters 1. Sarge Prince Parker – A 5 year old Male Orange and White Tabby Cat 2. Socks Riley Parker – A 2 year old Male Gray, with White Paws, Tabby Cat 3. Chloe Marie Parker – A 2 year old Female Gray Tabby Cat Introduction of the Minor Human Characters 1. Jessica Alexis Parker – 13 years old 2. Steven Alexander Parker – 42 years old 3. Samantha Mae Parker – 42 years old 4. Rachel Marie Parker – 21 years old 5. Kellie Ann Parker – 19 years old 6. Paul Isaiah Parker – 19 years old 7. Christopher Robert Parker – 17 years old Scene 1 The scene takes place in the Parker’s backyard. The backyard is surrounded by chain link fence that is fairly old looking, with some pieces in between the chain links are missing. The fence is rusted in some places too. In the back left corner of the backyard is what once was a garden but now all it holds is one huge oak tree, a much smaller oak tree and lots and lots of weeds, some of them being poison ivy. A very low wooden fence surrounds the garden. In front of the garden is a big stump from a tree that was cut down fairly recently. In front and to the left of the garden is a lilac bush that doesn’t flower anymore. If you keep going left you come to a gate, the smaller of the two gates. On the right of this gate is a tan air conditioner, next to that is a small bush of unknown origin, a small evergreen tree, and a whole bunch of weeds. To the right of the garden is a small gravestone for a puppy that the Parker’s lost, then another small evergreen tree that goes a little bit above the fence line, then further down the fence is a smaller evergreen tree that comes about ¾ of the way up the fence. In the back right corner of the backyard not too far from the smaller evergreen tree is a shed that is tan, with blue trim, and a brown shingled roof. In front of the shed is an old bird feeder on a post that was at one point all white, but now has some brown and green on it from being outside for so long, and what white is left is dirty and peeling. A little in front and to the right of the bird feeder is another stump from a tree that was cut down fairly recently, this one is right up against the fence and is now surrounded by weeds that are taller than the fence line. If you keep going you come to a part of a bush that has overgrown from the neighbors yard, then you come to a woodpile that is sitting their and rotting away. To the left of the woodpile is another gate, the bigger and main gate. The backyard is covered in what was once grass but now is mostly just weeds. In the middle of the backyard is an old rusting swing set, which has a big white double swing, then monkey bars, then a soft blue swing, a hard red swing and black hanging rings. Attached to the back of the house, that is tan, with blue trim and a brown shingled roof, is a deck that is supposed to be all blue but you can see some of the red paint that the deck used to be colored plus some of the regular wood color is showing too. On the deck to the left of the sliding glass doors is a wooden picnic table. On about half of the front part of the deck and a little bit of the right part of the deck is a built in bench. In front of this bench is a small red grill; to the right of this bench is the gate to the deck and the stairs leading down from the deck. In the right back corner of the deck is a green turtle sandbox. The ground under the deck is all leaf covered and surrounding the outside of the bottom part of the deck is diamond shaped lattés work. When you go down the stairs you come to a dirty concrete patio that has a planter box along the front that is full of weeds. On the patio but mostly under the deck is a bright yellow hose, also on the patio is a red painters bucket that is used for rollers, a blue patio chair, an orange and blue child’s slide that is lying on it’s side, and a small black soccer net with the white netting ripped. Now that you know what the backyard looks like I can tell you where all the characters live. Silvan lives in a hollowed out part of the huge oak tree, Cooper lives in a small burrow in the ground near the base of the much smaller oak tree, Rogan lives in a big burrow in the ground near the base of the huge oak tree, Rebecca and Savannah live in nests in the huge oak tree that are on opposite sides of the tree, and Gavin lives in a huge burrow under the shed. All six of the humans live in the house and so do the cats Socks and Chloe. Sarge lives outside and in the garage. I will be putting the rest of scene 1, and then scene 2 into others questions lol, I don’t wanna make one question too long. Thanx for taking the time to read it over and give me any feed back u can. moreResolved Question: What "Light Level" is my apartment?
Hello! I want to get some houseplants for my new apartment, but I'm not sure what level of light I have. The only natural light in the living room comes from a double sided sliding glass door. I have a small balcony that reaches about 3-4 ft out from the glass door. The balcony is positioned such that it never receives any DIRECT sunlight, so no direct sunlight gets into the apartment, either. If I leave the blinds open, what light level would the area right by the door be? How about 10-12 ft inside from the door? On top of that, can you recommend some good "interesting" fast-growing indoor trees that would work well in the light level right by the door? Thank you in advance! moreResolved Question: What is the easiest way to clean inside a double glass sliding door?
My sliding door got humidity in between both pieces of glass, I would like to know the easiest way to clean it. moreResolved Question: What's the cost to replace 9 windows, 2 skylights and a sliding glass door?
Nothing fancy, simple. High energy star rating. Skylights don't open, windows are double pane and not double hung. Sliding glass door and all windows are medium size - small. Skylights are 22x22. I live in pacific NW. Trying to get a round about cost. Looking at Milgard. All inclusive: windows & installation. But please separate the 2. Thanks! moreResolved Question: How to maintain heat with vaulted ceilings?
My entire downstairs of my house is open and has vaulted ceilings. It always seems cold in here unless I really get my wood fireplace blazin. I have got the fan adjusted to blow air down, and the vents for the heat are way up on the cealings. Their is a large double window in the living room, one window in the kitchen, and a sliding glass door off the back of the house. I have to find ways to keep heat in this big area, my electric bills in the winter are out of control! Thanks for your help! Oh...also the front door to the house opens to the entire area, so that creates a loss of heat everytime it is open. But even through the night, in the mornings the entire area feels cold despite the thermostat set at 70. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Is this a good start to a story?
PROLOGUE We were six kids all from different universes. Nothing in common except despair, emptiness and somehow even though our personalities clashed and many times our arguments ended with a new cut or bruise and sometimes even the a trip to the hospital we loved one another and in each other we found someone that actually understood us, someone that made us belong. But that was when we were kids. Now, we were complete strangers. And no longer did we belong, not even to our families. Outcasts again. CHAPTER ONE ~DIANA~ I sighed miserably, smiling sadly at the Barrett family, neighbors we had when I was a teenager, Mom would have liked to seen them. My father’s withered hand slid into mine and I turned to see his eyes blossoming with moisture and salty silver streaks of tears staining his sunken cheeks. His white hair, slickly brushed back with dark shadows beneath his eyes, aging his appearance greatly. “Your mother would be so proud of you right now, Di,” he murmured, his voice thick with tears. I shrugged my shoulders and patted his hand soothingly, quickly raising to my feet as a new wave of mourners came to seek condolences, which I did not need. I ignored the pitying looks my relations and neighbors gave me and smoothly side stepped Aunt Marley who had broken down on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably crying out my mother’s name hoarsely. I scowled internally, knowing there was no blood lost between my mother and her sister, a vile bitter woman who thrived on attention and of course others knew this also that was why no one helped her up only the revenant Charmers. The kitchen was crowded with weepers and condolers who sipped tea and reminisced with each other about olden times and some shore news about their lives now, each with a drawn expression on their faces, sadness creeping in their tone of voice. Slipping up the stairs I was glad to find a eerie silence mostly just with the hum of chatter below me and the howling of the wind battering against the double glazed windows. I wrapped my arms around diminutive shoulders and walked into Mom’s and Dad’s room now just Dad’s. I let out an exasperated sigh out when I noticed the bed had yet to be made, never used since Mom had last been in it. The night she had suffered from the stroke. Slowly -almost cautiously- I glided over to her side of the bed and let myself fall onto it, hearing the old springs moan faintly in protest. My knees instantly came up and I cradled them to my chest, making myself into a protective ball, like I did when I was younger. I smiled at the strong scent of my mother lingering on the pillows and bed sheets. A unique fragrance; expensive scotch and old gin with her cheap perfume that she loved more so than the countless bottles of upmarket ones I had sent back from my travels in Europe. I pursed my lips and remembered vividly my mother’s stubbornness and inflexibility that had caused many fights and arguments between both of us. It was the reason I had moved out when I was eighteen and rarely visited incapable of fighting anymore with her. Perhaps that was the reason I was incapable of showing emotion or even grieving for her like my father did so strongly. Or maybe it was the company that swarmed me, strangers and my father also belonged to that category. Even those that I had once gone to school with were alien to me, those who had regarded me an outcast when I was younger and now I knew they were correct in their assumptions. The only people that I regarded as family weren’t here and I hadn’t heard from them in a near decade. I heard my Uncle Ben call my name clearly, obviously upstairs and with a parting groan I got to my feet fluidly and walked over to the door meeting my Uncle as he appeared in the doorway, looking tired and miserable and who could blame him when you have to attend your younger sister’s wake it’s bound to upset you. “Yes?” I asked in a gentle tone, smiling at my shell of an Uncle. He gave me a brief smile and wrapped his arm around my shoulder as he never did and began to steer us to the stairs, to my utter dismay but I kept my distaste for any human contact concealed with a smile. “You’ve grown up so much Diana since you moved away,” He began, and I nodded weakly remembering lucidly the scrawny eighteen year old I was when I had seen him last, my blonde hair frizzy and untamed, chapped lips and thick eyebrows, my glasses larger than my face and my acne plagued skin, my clothes much too baggy for me and my scrunched posture. But now I was grown, a twenty five year old woman, with my blonde hair usual cascading down my back in loose curls, my lips full and tainted a rose, my eyebrows perfect, my contacts and smooth alabaster skin, my tight fitting clothes that showed my curves and complimented my shape and my small physique somehow larger as I walked straight and with my chin up. “I know you and your mother didn’t alway moreVoting Question: MINISTORY HELP! HOMEWORK?
Hey! I'm actually new to writing and currently doing a writing class this year. Please help by reading and help me improve my story thank you. Please try to help make it touching lol thanks THE LUMINOUS TREES The flames cooked my humble cubic room. Every, and I mean every sight was burning in flames like my aged car posters from when I was young hanging on top my bed, my anime collection which was on the wooden self above my work desk. The fire beamed quickly onto my torrid carpet making it almost impossible to escape. I began to think about my family, my brother and my parents. The fear to lose them was stronger than the fear to burn in this flaring room. My heart doubled its speed to catch up to my adrenaline. I was scared, nervous, frightened, anxious, and aghast; there weren’t enough words to express my fear. I just couldn’t watch my room disintegrate into pieces, the only escape; to get out of here. I watched attentively as the fire raced to the door devouring in the front right corner of my devouring small room. The door scorched by the blazing flame of the night, leaving behind only a fragile door frame. That’s when I saw my opportunity to leave. I closely watched the surroundings; like the sky above my head, the sides of the wall, my furniture, all in destruction because of the flames. Each step I took, I watched and listen as I made my way out. I then heard a soft cry for help. A very familiar one; it was a blooded call. I heroically kicked the delicate door only to meet and save my brother, Jiro. The sense of distress guided me towards Jiro’s eyes. I could feel and see the amount of anxiety he was going through. “Everything’s going to be okay, Jiro. Just follow and hold my hands at all time.” “Okay.” His soft spoken words replied. I took hold of his hand tightly to the 9 year old. “Jiro, JAY!” “Mum, dad, don’t wait for us, we’ll get out, it’s okay, save yourselves. “ I almost yelled. I gently waited for a response… but there weren’t one. I turned to face Jiro whose was fear was hiding behind my shoulders. Luckily the plan of my house wasn’t at all big. I pulled Jiro’s hand and dodged for our lives as pieces of wood dropped from the sky. Although we had reached the lounge room where we could easily break out into the safe spot, I took a last look at the priceless photos decorating the dull room; pictures that won’t ever be replaced again. I grabbed the emergency pole that situated in a glass case beside the once blue silky curtains. I swung my arm without any worries hitting anything that was already damaged. The glass shattered into pieces. “Go out first Jiro.” “No, you first.” “PLEASE, ****** GET OUT, listen to me! We’ll die if we don’t leave. NOW!” I shook him as I bawled. Jiro followed my order. He slid his left leg outside and then his right left out. I followed closely behind. We were out of the destruction. I look around at what used to be utopia. Now everything was gone. Trees were burning and the temperature provided by the torrid trees was broiling. We were in the safest place where we could be; a place with warmth, protection and love; in each other’s arms in the middle of our big front yard. By the time the fire at ease, it was morning and the sun had risen, bringing the refreshing feeling. As the sun shone brightly at my eyes, I slowly woke up to life. Black and gone. My home is gone and it’ll never come back. Everything is gone, the tv, my clothes, my anime collection, everything. Within a second of time, I had lost almost everything. Close your eyes and imagine, imagine what it would feel like to lose those photos that would never be replaced, the shirt your first love gave to you, your wedding ring from your special day, your birthday gift from your grandparents before they died or the money you were saving up for college. I slowly closed my eyes and began to tear as I thought. Jiro’s innocent face looked up “Jay, what happened?” I slowly turned to face the boy who was parentless, “Nothing Jiro, don’t worry about it, okay? Everything’s going to fine. Believe me.” When it seems you are at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. moreResolved Question: Mini Essay Homework help!?

My syrian hamster Kiwi is growing really fast! She was quite small in december when I got her, and the wire and plastic cage looked huge when she was in it, and now she has almost doubled in size and its time for a new cage. haha im scared she might get stuck in the tubes. Anyways I want to make her a bin cage! My dad is a real handyman and he will basicly make it for me lol. I want to make on kind of like this http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b364/rm89203/IMG_4161-2.jpg but bigger. I really like the kind of cages/tanks with sliding glass doors like these http://www.mccarthyboas.com/3cagepicHighRes.JPG and i know theyre for snakes, but my friends dad built her hammy a cage just like that, but at the back he used hardware cloth for extra ventilation, as well as the vents. Would that be ok for my hammy? Obviously if its not a good idea i would never put her in there. http://reptilium-vivariums.co.uk/Vivarium3.jpg like thi but with a deeper base moreResolved Question: Window and Patio Door issues/questions?
Over the fall I had a new furnace installed as well as new patio doors and windows. The house actually seems colder than last winter and it seems as though the furnace runs more often than the last one. The furnace is 80% efficiency and is a dual speed unit (?). My home is 1600sq ft and I was told that a high efficiency furnace would be a waste of money for a home my size. I have also noticed plenty of condensation on the windows. The relative humidity in the home is between 40 and 50%. The patio door on the other hand, has barely any condensation which leads me to believe that there might be an issue with the windows. They are supposed to be energy star, but they seem cold in some areas of the frame and warm in others. They are double windows with plastic separating the glass instead of metal. I was told this is better since it doesn't heat in summer or cool in winter. The patio sliding door has metal separating the glass. My questions are: -are my windows crappy or is it just a bad installation job? -is it true what I was told about an 80% furnace for my home size? -Is there anything I can check myself to see if the windows are energy star or any other tests I can do? Any info would be greatly appreciated. moreResolved Question: Condo Renovations - Some Value Questions?
I'm looking to sell my condo this summer, and have some cash to spend on renos. I'd like to know the best ways to maximize value. Specifically, my condo is 604 sq ft one bedroom, one bath, fireplace, with top floor balcony. In the past 2 years, I've replaced an outdated shower and bathtub with a new tub, surround, and tap system. I've also put a new bathroom sink, and repainted neutral colors throughout. So I'd like to get some good value ideas from the community. Here's how it looks at present - My appliances and kitchen cabinets are relatively new (european style cabinets), and have considerable life left in them. Countertop needs to be replaced. The back wall of the dining room/living room is mirrored glass to give the image of a larger room. Flooring is linoleum in kitchen/dining room, and w-w carpet throughout living room and bedroom. Decor is urban-chic and space-saving, so it looks fairly spacious. What I'm thinking about doing is replacing my old white, opaque sliding closet doors with nickel and frosted glass sliders to modernize, replacing my countertops (undecided on what material to go with). Right now, the average one-bedroom condo in my area sells for $90-95k in my area. I'd like to put $2-3k into my condo and at least double my return on the investment. Your help will be appreciated. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Anyone care to help me with my story?
I love writing, and this is a story that I'm doing for school. Now, you know those types of teachers with their whole cut-and-dry "Beginning, middle and end!" theories...but my short-story is supposed to leave readers in suspense. Do you think this is acceptable? And, what are some things that I can do to improve it? (Note: This story is totally fictional! Also, special typing effects like italization and such won't show up on Y!A.) It's called "Lost", about a girl, Angela, whose car gets crashed by a drunk driver and she wakes up w/ amnesia. It's due tomorrow, so thanks in advance!! Mom wants to know if I want to go shopping with her. I must admit that trailing the endless racks at JC Penney’s is not my idea of a good time, but then I remember how I have homework and how I’d rather watch Mom put together hideous outfits then sit at home working with nouns and verbs and all that other confusing stuff for the rest of my Saturday afternoon. Besides, it’s Christmas break. Maybe Mom will let me wander away to the other parts of the mall while she shops, since it is a giving, joyful season. So I say yes. We all pile up into our beat-up car that is so old the color is indistinguishable. The seats’ cloth coverings are starting to rip away, proudly sporting their Kool-Aid stains and odor of moldy French fries and hamburgers from McDonald’s. As I rush in to grab the front seat (for once) I pull on my seat belt (held together with duct tape, must I add), and we chatter about Christmas and what we’re going to get friends and cousins and grandparents. “I’m going to make Great-Aunt Anne’s old homemade fudges,” says Renee, her chestnut curls, as usual, falling in her face. “Ever since she passed away last Christmas, Uncle Pete’s seemed pretty lonely and sad lately. I’ll make him the white chocolate raspberry ones, since those were his favorite.” I roll my eyes. If it has to do with cooking, Renee loves it. Every year since she was ten, she’s given away homemade goodies—cookies, breads, cakes, whatever she sets her mind on. “I have no clue what I’m getting anyone this year,” giggles Hattie, because that’s her, scatterbrained as usual. We all smile and start shooting her practically our whole wish lists. Her blue eyes sparkle at the thought of presents, though. She may be a huge procrastinator, but Hattie always manages to whip something amazing up in the end. “I think I’m getting Grandma a pair of gloves,” I say, almost visualizing my detailed, organized list—because that’s me—everything orderly, all in its place; the exact opposite of good-natured Hattie, who also happens to basically be my best“est” friend, not just my sister. “And for Grandpa, a card deck.” “Paul?” My mother inquires, tilting her head back to look at my eldest brother. And then, it happens. A car swerves right in front of us. I scream, and I hear Mom yelling every curse in the book. I see the vivid image of the bottle of beer smash on the ground, and a quick sight of the rowdy high-schoolers in the truck, before our car swerves into a ditch. All of this happens in about two seconds, and then everything goes black. * * * I yawn, blinking up into a high ceiling. Where am I? I wonder, my eyes nervously taking in it all—the thin cover on top of me, who is apparently laying on a bed, all the tubes and poles, one bandage across my eye, I think. A black-and-green beeping thing which seems to be some sort of monitor. And then, as the blurry room comes into focus, I see two people, about, maybe, forty years old, with greying hair, a man and a woman. The man has a little bald spot on the top of his head. They both peer down at me, worried. “Oh, Angela!” the woman gasps. She collapses into a black plastic chair beside the bed. “Thank God. Angela...Can you hear me, baby?” I suddenly notice she is missing one of her arms, and I almost gasp out loud in gruesome shock. Who is this mutilated woman, and why is she calling me “baby”? What am I doing here? “Angela Freeman,” a man remarks, pushing open the door to my room. He is holding a clipboard and is wearing white. He is older than the couple in the room, but he wears glasses and the younger man doesn’t. He does a double take as he realizes I’m really awake. I know this because his eyes widen and then he exclaims, “You’re awake!” A nurse follows him into the room, wearing an ugly top and white shoes. She pulls up another chair and sits next to me. I’m starting to feel scared. “Angela? Can you hear me?” she asks calmly. “Who’s Angela?” I say, confused. “You must have the wrong room.” The middle-aged couple look shocked. So does the other man and woman, but their expressions slide out to “natural” in half a second. “Oh, lord...” says the woman in the purple shoes, not the white ones of the young blonde lady who’s talking to me. “Hun, do you know where you are?” the White Shoes one asks, and I don’t know about the others, but I Oh, CRAP!! It cut off my ending! GRRRR..... pick up a thread of nervousness in it. “Yeah,” I say, “in a hospital.” The faces do their dance again, only this time, they’re skeptical, and confused. “And who do you think that man in the white coat is?” “A...a doctor,” I say, piecing it all together. “And are you a nurse?” She nods, surprised. The doctor scribbles something onto his clipboard. “Very good, hun. Now, do you know who that couple over there is?” She’s pointing to Balding Man and Purple Shoes Lady. I squinch my eyes at her. “Um, no. Who?” “Oh, my God,” Purple Shoes yelps, tears brimming in her eyes. “Oh God, Henry, oh dear God...She doesn’t recognize us! Lord, Henry, she doesn’t even know we’re her parents! ANGELA...?!” “There, there,” the man who must be Henry says, patting Purple Shoes’s back. “Petunia, darling, it’s all right; it’s all going to be OK.” She is sobbing now. So Purple Shoes is Petunia. “My parents?” I say numbly.I’ve never seen these people before in my life. And why does everybody keep talking about an Angela? Another girl comes in the door. She has dark circles under her eyes. She looks, maybe, fifteen and is using one crutch, her leg in a bright pink cast. She has some bruises and scrapes on her arm. “Yes, Hattie?” Petunia says, still sniffling. Hattie almost drops the cardboard cup she’s balancing, which smells of coffee. She has blonde hair like the nurse, only hers is short, straight, and shiny, and she has blue eyes while the nurse has green. “Oh, wow,” she says immediately brightening. “Hi, Angela! You’re awake!” “I told you, I’m not Angela,” I repeat. “And I don’t know a Hattie or Henry or a Petunia. Just leave me alone!”“Listen,” the nurse says to me. She’s still using the soft, comfortable voice, except it’s sterner then before. “Your name is Angela. Do you got that, hun? Angela. You are Angela Freeman, and you were in a car accident two weeks ago and got hit in the head. A splinter of glass shattered into one of your eyes, but it’s going to be OK. You also broke your left pinky and an ankle, but they’re all going to be fine, too. And those people over there, Petunia and Henry, are your mom and dad. Petunia was driving when your car crashed. Hattie was in the car too, the girl with the fractured leg over there. Do you remember anything now?” “No,” I answer 100% honestly. “I swear, I have never seen any of you before.” Petunia is bawling and Hattie looks pale and stunned. Henry is trying to calm both of them down. I can see stress on his face. The nurse says, “Do you understand that your name is Angela?” I shake my head. “What is it, then?” I didn’t expect that one.“I—I, I don’t know...” I struggle. “Counseling,” I see the words the doctor’s lips make as he writes. “Amnesia. Tough case.” The nurse nods, thin-lipped. Suddenly it feels like I’ve stopped breathing. I’ve lost something, only I don’t know what. And I’m searching for it, I’m searching...I can’t find anything, it’s like I’m trapped, I can’t see anything, who am I...? The thoughts tumble around in my head like a hurricane, and I’m sweating and smothering under the not-knowing. They’re all trying to tell me something, supposedly my life, but I’ve never heard it before and I want it to be fiction. They sound like they’re underwater. I had a brother, Paul, who died...I don’t remember any of it. I yell that I don’t want to be here, in the hospital, where they say they’re going to take tests and check my brain and convince me who I am. Because I don’t know. Who I am, I mean.I jerk my arm up, but it’s taped to a needle with a bag filled with liquid and pain shoots through me. Another bag is filled with yellow...oh my lord. Is that my urine? I’m going crazy. Something slipped from my mind, my memory, but I don’t know what it is. I want something, I need something, but it’s gone. I’m desperate. I’m lost. In a moment of unconditional and irrevocable rage, I scream: “NOOO!” -- THE END!!! Chapter 1 Jamie’s heavy footsteps echoed through the dark alleyway, the noise amplified by the thick brick walls. The sound of his heartbeat bounced off his graffiti splattered surroundings, and all that kept him running was the whirring of distant police sirens. His heavy pack severed through his clammy skin, and sweat trickled down his blonde hair, gathering in a large pool at his shirt collar. Jamie wore tight black cargo pants and a Chelsea football club away jersey. Over that he had layered a black denim jacket and pulled a FOX cap over his fringe, and a pair of fake Polaroid sunglasses and some Nike Air trainers capped off his burglars outfit. His heavy pack clattered as he ran, £7 000 worth of stolen goods rattling as he rounded the corner. The crisp evening air pierced his clothing, but adrenalin kept his body warm. The grubby London streets and desolate granite buildings were merely large shadows in the moonlight, but the cobbled terraces were dotted with small gas lamps, piercing the evening’s darkness with a subtle yellow glow. Jamie’s feet pounded the pavement, the steady thumping resembling that of his heartbeat. He turned another corner and pulled up next to a large convenience store, pausing only to gather his breath. As Jamie’s breath returned, he took some time to study his surroundings. He was in West London, only a few miles away from his small Chelsea flat. Part of him wanted to go home and crash out, but he had told his mum that he was sleeping over at a friend’s house, and wouldn’t be home till 10:00am the next day. A department store robbery wasn’t exactly headline news, but Jamie was still worried. If his mum heard about this she would massacre him, and he would probably get an absolute grilling about morals and choices and a hefty grounding or Xbox suspension. But for now he was more worried about the police siren, now identified as belonging to just one unmarked sedan. The patrol car sped past the outlet store, and on into the distance, its red and blue lights becoming lost in the foggy haze. Jamie considered his options. The police were clearly not informed about the robbery, so they weren’t after him yet. And even if they found out they would only send one or two officers, three tops. The only fail-safe plan was to hide out until morning, then come home at around 10:00am. In his haste to escape the police sirens, Jamie hadn’t been paying attention to where he was heading, and he found himself jogging through a large tarmac stretch dotted with parking bays, belonging to a small shopping centre. He headed up the parking lot and towards the mall, squeezing through the glass double sliding doors at the last moment. He walked up the escalators, trying his best to look inconspicuous. There was no good reason for a fifteen year old boy to be wandering around London at 11:00 at night, so Jamie was relieved when he made it up without being asked any awkward questions. The desolate passage was nearly empty, and Jamie’s only company were a few tired managers pulling metal grills down over their doors, and locking up for the night. A loud echo bounced around the large tiled hall, with the smell of floor polish heavy in the air. The cinema was the only part of the mall open at this time of night, so that’s where he headed. Two right turns led Jamie through to a small cinema complex, displaying large posters for six month old movies. He thought that it would be best to kill some time and hide out in one of the movie rooms, so was relieved to find a £5 note and sixty pence in his back pocket. He dawdled up to the cashier, scanning the display board above his head. There were no lines at this time of night, so Jamie had only moments to decide. “Ah... Umm... one ticket for Aliens vs. Predator... please ...” “That’s £5 lovie,” the cashier smiled goofily, “Enjoy”. Jamie strolled casually up to the ticket collector, who took his ticket and directed him towards Room 5. He pushed open the heavy glass doors, and walked slowly down the aisle, stepping over a teenage couple snogging madly on the floor. Jamie sat down near the front of the cinema, ogling a cute goth in a denim micro-skirt in the row in front. As the lights dimmed Jamie settled into his seat, diverting his eyes towards the screen. As the pre-movie advertising started Jamie heard a thud from the back of the cinema, near the entrance. Another thud followed, louder this time, and most of the cinemas’ patrons turned in alarm. A third thud was followed by a loud shout, then the pounding of heavy footsteps moving down the aisle. “Freeze!!!! Put your hands up! Step out from the aisle, hands on your head!” But the words were drowned out by the slam of the fire exit door; Jamie’s pounding footsteps and the droning of the wind, as he clambered down the metal stairwell, dropping to the tarmac stretch below. I'm looking (don't laugh) to sell my older home and move into a well established 55+ community. It's 50 y.o. and has gone from just single wides, to double wides, and now on to modulars. Lot rental is $315, and yard/snow prices are very reasonable, and the community is well maintained. I'm looking at the ugliest double wide in history, but I like the layout and can see what could be done. Ripping up carpet and refacing cabinets is no problem. What does one do with paneling? Can it be ripped down and sheet rocked or is there an easier solution? It MUST go however. I'll have money for a cash purchase with some left over for improvements. Of course, I'll have an inspection. One of the main things for me is a three season room. I can visualize sliding glass (or French doors) off the dining area to a porch. I live alone and don't need tons of space. Is there anyone with strictly a ballpark figure of what an approximate nine by twelve (or so) addition like that might cost? I'd have a budget of approximately $10,000 for improvements and want to see how far it might go - Maybe the porch alone would cost that - have no idea. Since I'm planning to stay there (if I'm able to buy) for quite awhile, the improvements aren't a bad investment even though I know the unit will continue to go down in value - it's just important to me that I like where I live (and I sure wouldn't like it in it's present condition). Any thoughts on updating mobiles and adding a room would be hugely appreciated. Thanks moreResolved Question: how do you clean film that builds up in-between double pain patio sliding glass doors?

Dream Interpretation Anyone?
Ok this is the 10th time I've had this dream in a row what is going on? I don't know if someone is trying to tell me something or what but I just have to know what's going on in my mind. I'm outside this tall building (maybe 50 floors) looking straight at the entrance. It has glass double doors I'm wearing a trench coat I have a gunshot wound in my left shoulder. I see someone special to me behind me crying. My hair is wet and I start walking towards the doors. When i get inside I'm in a lobby with blood red carpet. There are concierge desks to my left and right. There is an escalator straight ahead of me. There are men in black suits all over the place. I start walking for the escalator and a cold sweat comes over me. The men draw handguns from their coats and start shooting at me. I run to the escalator and duck down while I'm going to the second door. I draw a silver handgun under my trench coat and open fire on the men under me. I plant a bomb on the escalator to prevent anyone from following me and when I'm a distance away form it i blow it up. More men some out of doorways firing at me. I get shot in the stomach and stumble into an elevator. I sit down on the elevator floor while im I'ming up. When the door opens again I struggle to get to my feet i stumble out of the elevator. Im I'm a really cold and dark hallway. I hear slow paced footsteps behind me and i turn around. There's a man in a black suit with a red tie and sunglasses in front of me. He raises his pistol and shoots me 13 times in the chest. I fall against the wall behind me sliding down trailing blood on the wall. He shoots me another 3 times in the chest and I die. We have (roughly) 1,500 square feet in our home. We have two window units in two separate rooms directly across from each other and the way the room(s) are setup there is a big gap in the wall. Well we run both air conditioners at the same time on the same temp (72 degrees) all the time. In one room where an ac is there is a brand new double pain window, and a brand new double pain sliding glass door. There are 7 rooms in all, and there is a lot of open space in the front three rooms (kitchen, living area, kind of a multi-purpose room), and in the multi-purpose room there is a skylight (double pain glass), and a medium sized double pain window. We keep one bedroom shut at all times because it is being remodeled (right now there is no insulation, or a ceiling in that room). One bedroom doesn't have a room. The house is insulated on the walls that lead outside. Like the outside walls do, but not the inside walls leading to different rooms. Serious answers only please. Thanks. The room with no ceiling I mean that the room is showing. No Sheetrock or paneling just yet. Although there is no insulation there, but it is completely shut off from the other rooms.I have caulk around the windows. Lots of insulation in the attic area, celing fans are here, and we use fans, but it's hot. moreVoting Question: I just broke the first pane of a double glass 6x3 sliding door. Please could you read through my story, I understand if you don't have time, I'd just like advice, it's an opening chapter, and definately not the final draft, the ending is somewhat rushed, but it gives the gist of it, but could do with a bit more describing and coversation with the wife. Spelling is unimportant, I have spell checked once about half way through, and I'm bound to have missed things or used wrong tenses, sorry I will fix these, I just wanted to get the words down. I understand also the whole, Mr. landon, Mr. brown can get boring, this will be worked on, first names will be brought in to make reading and typing easier. It's just a bit of fun, nothing serious, something I've worked on for a few months, adding to whenever I get the chance around college. Also the the words when copied in from notebook, got a put out of alignment sorry about this. Thanks for any advice in advance! ---------- 'Thud'...........'Thud'...........'Thud' "Every time I walked several metres down the street, a loud thud echoed from behind me and rang through my ears. I calmly carried on, attempting to not pay attention to the noise. However the only other noise around was the sound of my steps which when compared to the noise following me was like listening for a pin drop on a missile test zone. The noise filled my head like an explosion in a cave, screaming for several moments after entry, bouncing of the sides of my skull, until finally flooding out to carry on down the street. The noise was unbearable, it brought me back to my days at University, trying to revise when everyone else wanted to party. I became an expert at finding quiet places, unlucky for me that skill was of no use to me in this situation. I quickened my pace so I didn't spend more than a couple of seconds out of the light from the street lamps, which where the only thing allowing me to continue, otherwise I would be in complete darkness. Although the noise was unnerving, it wasn't close yet, which meant I had time to examine my surroundings. Probably not the best thing to do, maybe I should have been running away, or even confronting it. I mean, come on I'm thirty two and running away from a noise, it could have been a bunch of kids playing a trick on me." "My eyes swayed from left to right in a similar fashion to a pendulum, I was sure I could have hypnotised someone with them had I met anyone. Walking down the street I found my self drawn to glancing in through the windows of what I thought where shops, houses and restaurants, but the only thing that gave me that impression was the fact it said it above the windows and doors, not from looking through the windows, as I couldn't see anything through them. The windows where painted black from the inside. After trying to find any gap in the paint in the second chemist on the street, I decided I'd have a better chance on the other side of the road. Pushing my self away from the building, I quickly spun around and shot off for the other buildings. Before I knew it I'd lost my footing and got tangled up in bin bags, then I was lying face flat against the concrete. Had I been alone I would have sympathised with my self and laughed it off, But as I said 'had I been alone'. Now don't forget this noise was still following me, it's not like I'd forgotten and was checking out the shops for offers, or the restaurants so I could find a cheap meal deal for my upcoming anniversary." "Oh wait scrap that from your report, just encase my wife finds out I've said it, you'll think she won't but she knows everything about me, even stuff I wouldn't dream of telling her." A tall man was sat in a small room, he had shoulder length brown scraggy hair, his eyes a deep shade of brown looked like they were trying to escape from the sockets. His general look wasn't that appealing. Opposite him was another man, dressed entirely in black from his Sunglasses, to his suit down to his shoes. He sat holding a small burgundy notebook and frantically wrote things down, hoping not to miss a word a Dictaphone lay on the table as well. "You Know what I bet somehow she knew about this, don't ask me how, it's just a feeling." "Mr Landon, I couldn't care less if your wife knew the secrets of eternal youth, or the meaning of life at the moment, I'm sat here listening to some loon, describe a dream he had, about the time he walked down a never ending road, being followed by a noise which I heard you described as being louder than thousands of foghorns going off altogether, in your last interview." Mr. Brown proclaimed. Mr Landon stood hoping to intimidate Mr. Brown by standing over him, unluckily Mr Landon was a short stubby man, and rather than scare him, he seemed to strike his funny bone. "Alan, If I may use your first name" "Yes you may" Mr Landon spat back at him. "I don't mean to insult you, however I have a deadline and I'd like you to get to the point of your tale before we both die of old age. I mean have you actually read all your interviews you've done. Take for example The one you did for the local paper, it was ten pages of utter nonsense, you take anyone's comments on your story as an insult, and the papers turn it round on you and make you look like some escaped mental patient. I suggest after our meeting you just give people the basic facts, people aren't interested in your story and won't sit there reading ten pages." "Hey" Mr Landon carried on the conversation as though Mr. Browns speech hadn't even occurred. "What right have you got to come into my house and say it was a dream or even query me." "I'm going to be frank with you Mr Landon, if it was true I doubt you'd be able to answer any of my questions, because unfortunately I don't know sign language, and a noise that loud surely would have deafened you" At this point Mr. Brown slammed his cup of tea onto the table smashing his saucer, the tea splashed out and landed on his wrist. Though the tea was fresh and still boiling hot he did not flinch at all. "I've had enough of this Alan, your just another one of those people that think they can get money from making up these stupid stories about alien attacks. You do know there's been around 800 in the past month, the past month, for christ sake, all have been found out to be fake, the police, prime minster, general Gundore have all said so. So why should yours be different, You'll be found out soon enough... I'm sure of it" "You haven't even heard all of what happened maybe I could change your mind, now sit back down and allow me to continue. Mr. Brown slunk back into his seat and although he'd rather not listen, out of courtesy he did. "Like I said The reason I was looking through the windows of the buildings was because They where my only way out" Mr. Brown, looked confused. His eyebrows raised and his mouth opened but before he could ask a question, Mr Landon had carried on. "The road looked like it went on for miles. If I carried on walking I'd end up well past my house and probably up in Scotland by time I got to the end. If there was one." "The entire street looked as though it had been deserted many years ago. Rubbish lined the streets waiting for the bin men to come round in the morning, although it did look like they had never been and rubbish piles just ended up getting bigger and bigger. The street carried on for what felt like forever, I came across no other street leading off it, no alleyway, all the houses and shops where packed so close together, the only thing I could do was carry on going forward or turn round to face the noise." "Suddenly I stopped dead in my tracks, up ahead was a body lying in the light of one of the street lights. I ran towards it hoping the person was okay, well actually I was hoping they'd know away off the street. From a distance they looked injured all curled up as though protecting them self. I had to make sure they was OK. As I charged towards the body the noise from behind quickened, as though it knew I had began to run and wasn't risking me getting away. I stopped next to the person and bent down to examine him. I then realised the noise had stopped and I could finally concentrate on him, rather than worry what had happened to it." "The man looked as though he was barely into his mid twenty's, I brushed my hand across the side of his face to see if it would wake him, it felt like I was touching sandpaper, had he ever heard of a razor, you know get the hairs you'd miss with an electric shaver as it just can't get as close. He wouldn't have stubble then. Actually now I think of it maybe it was just part of some fashion trend, he could have been trying to look older as he did have a sort of babyish face. Not that there's anything wrong with trying to look older though I'd prefer looking younger." "Once again Mr Landon you are going off topic, I don't need to know any fashion tips, especially from you, you of all people really don't have any right to judge based on looks and come up with someone's life story just from there appearance, unless you know the man's reason for stubble I couldn't care less." "Now as you can see, I seem to have an empty cup, could you get that wife of yours to fetch another in." "Pass it here, I'll get you a refill, rather than disturb her." "NO! Sorry, it's, just I noticed a bit of dirt on the cup, a new one will do fine." "Suit your self, I'll be back in a moment." Mr Landon stood up and made his way to the kitchen. Mr. Brown then sat back slouched on the sofa, staring into the corner of the room, he nodded once and clamped his teeth together, he repeated this action for the other three corners of the room, and then sat back upright. Mr Landon then came back into the room carrying a tray with a fresh cup of tea on, oblivious to the peculiar activity which had just occurred. "Now I'll carry on, just drink your tea, slow, were getting to the good part." "Instantly the man lying on the floor huddled up grabbed out at my hand and jerked up right, his dark brown eyes fixated on my own. It was like looking into a mirror, they where so clear, I saw myself. I looked confused, my hair was all over the place. As I ran towards the man my hair must have been blown out of place by the wind. I looked confused and I was, I mean it's not everyday I helped a strange person lying injured in the street, being followed by a strange noise on a road that seems to never end." Mr Landon stopped started into his cup of tea as though hoping it would reveal what happened next to him. "I remember thinking, have I gone crazy, was it something I ate or is all this just in my head, maybe it's a dream. I could have fallen over and knocked my head on something and be lying in some hospital bed, but I wasn't. " There was a few moments of silence, still staring at his tea, it was as though Mr Landon had a brainwave and remembered every little detail that happened, and once again he carried on. "My arm started to burn where the man was holding me, a strange sensation like something was coming out from the man's hand and was trying to push me away, even though he was the one holding me." "Get Down!" He shouted. "What do you mean get down." I replied. "Just get out of the way." The man said with a hint of anger in his voice. "Hey I'm only helping you don't worry I'm not going to hurt you." "Yeah well in a minute you'll be getting hurt by something if you don't move." "Is that a thre- "At that moment his other arm slammed into my side, I was sent to the floor and grazed my arm along the concrete. The man looked angry with me, his eyes shot from me and the darkness several times. I had no idea what his problem was but I thought it best I got away. I dragged my self along the street, trying not to draw attention to myself, slowly I got up and with out glancing back I carried on as I would have, if the man hadn't been there." "I was stopped in my track as a screeching pierced through my head, I dropped back to my knees, covering my ears, shaking, I tried to gather my strength and turn around. The noise had stopped, everything was silent, until," 'Thud'....'Thud'....'Thud' "The pace of the noise had quickened, I had no idea why, I glanced back at the man to see he was still there staring down the street. Further in front of him, the street lights began to go off. The night was far from over and the sun was hours away from rising. Either there was something wrong with the lights or it was the noise destroying them." "Now I know the 'noise' wasn't destroying, at the time I didn't know what the noise was, so I referred to the noise as though it was a living thing. I shouted for the man to run, but he paid no attention so I made my way for him. Up ahead the lights where going out faster and faster. It was a race for the man I had helped moments before. I arrived first and attempted to drag him away he wouldn't budge like he was stuck on the spot. There was one street light left until the noise would be on us. The ground was shaking and the thud had been joined by a gentle groaning that felt rather pleasant compared to all the other noises I'd heard that night." "From out of the shadows a large figure strode out and stopped in the light in all it's glory. It was a giant muscular figure with hands and feet at least four times bigger than my own. It's skin was almost flurecant in the light, it had a thin layer of fur growing on it's arms, legs and all over it's back. It had a greeny brown tinge to it's skin accompanied by a pale yellow chest. It's claws where like curved blades able to slice through metal. It's face was still clouded in darkness as it was taller than the lamppost." "The man gazed at it in disgust like it was the most vile thing he'd ever seen but, I felt as though there was something else another reason why he looked at it the way he did. He raised his hand so it was pointed at the creatures face, and let out an almighty scream." "Light shot from his hand and struck the monster square in the face pushing it back with immense strength. It struggled to push it self back and force itself forward. With a flick of the hand to the left the creature was sent into the front of a building, causing bricks and glass to fall to the floor around the creature. I gasped at what I just saw, one man just threw a creature into a building and not flinch at all. It must have been a regular occurrence to the man as he'd already began to stroll towards the creature by time I got myself back to normal. He pulled out a small dagger from his right pocket and took it out of it's protective sleeve. He raised it high above the creature but stopped dead in his tracks, as a second screech bellowed from above the building." "I looked up to see what it was, but I already knew what to expect based on what I just saw. I always tell myself to not think that everything will happen the way I expect it too. Expect the unexpected. Unfortunately at times like this you don't have time to think about anything and that's why I ended up getting thrown through a shop window. As I lay there watching this giant, muscular creature casually walk over to where I lay, I could do nothing. I couldn't move my arms or legs, Fear had me pinned down, because this was the first time I had seen it's face. The creature lowered it's head from out of the darkness and it's grotesque form took shape in front of me. Eyes the size of a clenched fist targeted on me from behind scraggy hair that flopped in front of the creatures face, and being blown about by the gust of air shooting out of it's nostrils. Fangs curved out of it's mouth like tusks, but where as sharp as knifes, except the left one which had broken off half way down. It's mouth opened and closed as though it was simulating eating me." "As it craned it's neck through the window, it's breath awakened my senses and I found myself able to move again, but before I could run, the creatures hand was already around my waist and pulling me from the debris of the smashed up window. Back in the street, suspended upside-down five metres from the ground I took my chance to look around for the stranger I'd helped and in turn had saved my own life, but he was no where to be seen, the only thing I could make out in the distance was the other creature still knocked out at the side of road. Was this the end for me, or will my luck change. With in a split second that question was answered." "From out of the darkness a flash of red slammed into the side of the creature sending it sliding down the street. As I stared closer at the flash of red, my eyes widened in surprise as just down the street was a red double decker bus. The creature was now stumbling back up, it looked at the bus with complete confusion, obviously it hadn't seen one before other wise it would have known they are hardly dangerous." "It seemed to be thinking over whether or not to attack me, or the bus, as though it had learnt from this. I was shocked at my own thoughts and prejudices, just because it wasn't human I believed it wasn't as intelligent but this proved me wrong, this creature wasn't stupid and it was now finding another way to get me. The creature called out as though it was preparing to make it's move. When the whole street was lit up flames engulfing the creature from behind. The creature began to run around fiercly trying to put out the fire but there was no way for it to be put out in the street." "The buildings had caught a blaze, windows where shattering up and down the street. Rubbish that lay piled up at the side of the road was quickly disappearing engulfed by the flames and smoke which was pouring out of the buildings and ontothe street. The bus had slowly began to melt, no one came off and before I knew it all that was left was a large puddle of red liquid in the middle of the street. Had no one been driving or had they perished inside and now where nothing more than a puddle of remains mixed in with those of the bus." "Looking around me I realized I was surrounded by the flames, theyre was no way out, this time I felt for sure help would not arrive, no more buses would come bursting through the flames to pick me up and drive me to safety, no strange men with glowing palms would fly down and away again with me in theyre arms. The idea of this being a dream once again crossed my mind, before a blinding light in front of me emerged from the fire, as it got close the light split into two, on either side of the lights two more pairs appeared, heading straight towards me. Help had arrived, in what form I had no idea, but fear struck me, these lights where not slowing down and if they kept going would hit me, I ran" "Towards the flames was the only way, as far to the side as I could go, I was still in line with the lights furthest to the right, terrified I curled up, placing my head on my knees, tears running down my face. This nightmare was going to be over, the price I'd have to pay though, was my life. I closed my eyes and covered my ears, I didnt want to see or hear the lights approach ready to kill me. However my efforts to drown out any sound where crushed when the sound of tyre's screeching filled my ears. I jumped up onto my feet, and quickly scanned my surroundings. The buildings had disappeared, the road had been replaced with the M25, the lights where those of car headlights, driving down the lanes towards me. I dashed to the side of the motorway just escaping the path of an oncoming lorry." "I kept thinknig to my self, how had I survived again, I should have died at least three times that night, but there I was perfectly safe at the side of the M25, and just a few miles from my house." "Thats where I will have to interupt you Mr. Landon, you are correct, you should have died that night, and theyre where numerous attempts on your life, all failing, I am yet to find out who aided you that night, but where I do, they will suffer the sam consequence for escaping, as you shall." Stone faced, gazing at Mr. Landon a smirk crept across Mr. Browns face. Mr. Brown lept at Mr. Landon, over the coffee table pushing him into his chair. Grabbing him by the throat, Mr. Brown attempted to strangle him. Mr. Landon Pulled off a succesful kick to the unprotected crotch of Mr. Brown. Falling to the ground in pain, Mr. Landon took this time to strike back and protect himself in his own house. Grabbing a conveniently placed lamp from the small table next to the chair he had almost lost his life in, he strook down hard, after the previous events that had happened to him Mr. Landon was not taking any chances and strook Mr. brown on the head a further three times. A blood spattered Mr. Landon stood over the body motionless. His wife came rushing through the kitchen after hearing the fight going on. Dropping her book she had been attempting to read in the bedroom, she dashed for the phone, without asking her husband about the incident, she called for the police. She had feared for the past few days her husband would do something drastic after telling him she thought he's been out all night drinking, rather than fight9ing for his life, and he had punched her for it. the bruise was theyre but her tangerine cxomplexion from cheap beauty products had covered it enough to not cause any suspicions among family and friends. The minutes leadin up to Mr. Landon's arrest, went slowly, his wife sat cradling her husband in her arms, as he wept in disgust of his own actions. Rage had filled him the moment he struck Mr. Brown, he tried to persuade his wife, he hadn't actually done it, something had taken over him and he had no recollection of the event. He tried to explain how he had wanted to kill his wife and he was only protecting her. She knew what had happened and that he was trying to hide the truth from her, the thing is she had started to believe his tale about his mysterious night, after all every time she heard him talk about it, she saw how terrified he was about losing his life, how confused he was about the events and how all he had wanted to do was get home and be with her. She now began to regret ringing for the police, thinking about what to do, would she actually hand over her husband to be sent down for murder, although it was self defense, the courts could find his mental state unnerving and lock him up for his own good. Her concentration was lost when a loud knock from the door echoed through the room followed by. "Open the door, we know your in there" A deep, rough male voice shouted. "Just a moment" She shrieked back. Getting to her feet she pulled up her husband looking him the eye and told him to run. The backdoor was the only way out, either that or through a window. Mr. Landon dashed into the kitchen almost slipping on the freshly mopped floor. He burst through the door, without looking to see if he was being chased, he climbed over the garden fence, and sped off into the woods. Mrs. Landon, got her act together, and confronted the police, in her calmest voice, as not to arouse suspicion, she explained how they had just missed him, and he had ran down the street, knowing full well he had infact gone in the opposite direction. She then gave a fake description of her husband, but only the basic information, giving the excuse she was still in shock and details of what had happened where blurry, so blurry that giving a description of the man she loved was hard to do. The Medics pushed past after spotting Mr. Brown lying in a pool of blood, frantic shouting from both police and medics, filled the house, everything was happening so quickly, Mrs. Landon could not focus on one thing for long before being asked another question by both groups of people. She panicked, and slummped onto her knees, leaning against the front door, tears streaming down her face, she sobbed, saying nothing, she just watched. moreResolved Question: What is the best type of doors to use to close off our living room from the dining room?
Ok, heres the deal. We are buying a home that has french doors in the living room, closing off the dining room. Normally I would want to just take those doors off and leave it open, but the house does not have central air (yet) and until we can afford to start remodeling and add the untit I would like to keep the doors to help keep the living room cool in the summer, but I don't want to keep the french doors. Even though I love french doors I know my son would take his toys and bang on the glass. I've been looking for interior double doors and can't seem to find any. I've seen the sliding screens and I'm not interested in those. Any ideas? moreResolved Question: Does it make sense for me to replace the windows in my house?
Lived in house for 5 years. I have 3 double hung windows and 3 slider windows. Would like to move Spring 2009 if the house sells. Current windows are 30 years old with metal frames, front big double hung windows do not fit/operate correctly, one slider window leaks. I live in a loud neighborhood. Should I replace all windows (and sliding glass door which I am doing for sure) for $4400 installed? Does this makes sense? Will it make the house more marketable? Who knows, I may be stuck in this house longer than I thought! New windows would be vinyl, low-e/argon gas windows with a transferrable warranty Thanks!Just wanted to clarify: Sliding glass door: $1600 3 large double hung & 3 large slider windows: $2800Follow-up question: Would 25% cheaper be more in line with what I should expect?Received another quote: $3920 for 3 double hung, 3 sliders, and a sliding glass door ($1500) OR $4400 for 9 double hung windows, and one sliding glass door. i have a dining room and a breakfast nook area that is basically attached to the kitchen. The kitchen is U shaped and part of it over looks the living room. in the open part of the U is the breakfast nook and there are double pantry doors to the right and a sliding glass door on the back wall so there are no walls to put anything against. i would rather not have two tables if i can avoid it. what kinda stuff can i put there? like an island or what? thanks! moreResolved Question: can glass break on its own?
Double pane sliding glass window just breaks on its own. There was a loud noise like a gun shooting and the next thing i know my window is in peices but still together in the door. its not broken on the outside and it looks like i broke it on the inside but i never touched it. it did it on its own. moreResolved Question: What are the best citrus trees to grow indoors (with some outside time in summer)??
I'd like to grow kieffer lime, (which I think is the same as kaffir lime), maybe lemon and some kind of orange/tangerine or something. We're in the mountains of WNC, have a sliding glass double door with southern exposure for winter and a stone patio to put them on in the summer. Indoor space is somewhat limited. moreResolved Question: Have you ever had someone or people attempt a home invasion while you were in the house?
True story. I was watching my friend's house in Southern California. Really nice neighborhood. Pretty affluent. Nice house. Large frig with tons of food in it. Large screen TV. Large back yard with a juicy rottweiler who had a full set of teeth. ( o _ 0 ) The doggie was pretty cool. He reminded me of a kid. Always following me. Anywho, there were these two yoodles who knocked on the door and said, "Hey. We're your next door neighbors. Our car broke down and we would like to use your phone." ( o _ 0 ) ??!!! "Our car broke down and we would like to use your phone. Oh, and we're your next door neighbors." ( o _ 0 ) ??!!!! So I ran to the back sliding glass door and got the dog! Opened the curtains so they could see the dog. The dog went wild! Barking up a storm and causing a ruckus! As in bearing all bazillion teeth! ( ^ _ ^ ) These guys saw the dog and ran like double H E hockey sticks! I called the cops and the cops patrolled the area looking for these freaks.I'm like 5'5 135lb barely. These guys were like 6'0 and 5'11. About 160 to 180lbs. I was little freaked out that day to say the least. moreResolved Question: For those who have gone through a remodel; mainly about doors?
Note: we are going to Lowes, Home Depot, etc to research options and pricing tomorrow, but I wanted some opinions now. We’re doing a total revamp of our doors, meaning we have 3 to replace: 1)Out through the basement (will be steel) 2)Sliding glass door 3)Double Entry doors + double entry storm doors I know at Lowes that the pro installation is $250/door (on average). Does anyone have any experience with pricing? How much approximately are we looking at? $1500? $2000? (Not including installation or tax, of course). We live in the KC area, if that helps. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. moreResolved Question: Sliding glass doors, how do I make them slide easier? No Squeeks!?
Do they need to HAVE a layer of grease to slide on? or is that just buildup from the WD-40 on the tracks? It is driving me crazy, the sound of the doors, I had my hubbie change and reverse them, thinking it was the ROLLERS! I have double windows and doors. hope that helps! Plus I blew out ALL the leaves and crap from the tracks, and SCRUBBED the tracks clean. thanks! It is snowing too, if that matters. moreResolved Question: thinking about buying a home - repair quotes?

This is a little something i've been working on. i know the idea is a but played out, but i just wanted to try it out. Please read it and give any suggestions that might help “Ah, Doctor, I was just finishing up here!” said the woman. She was wearing a white lab coat and had her hair tied up in a bun. The doctor noticed that bags under her eyes. “You haven’t been sleeping at all, have you?” said a man. He was in his mid-forties, grey hair, and stern face. The man walked down the steps and took a look around. It was a laboratory. To his right were tables with bottled fluid. There were also many high-tech machines that constantly buzzed and beeped. To his left was even more equipment. But there was something else there. They were giant case-like tubes. The tubes reached from floor to the ceiling and have massive cables coming and out leading to something that resembled a power generator. The inside of the tube was filled with an orange substance. Floating inside was something, something unlike anything on earth. The man stepped up to the tube and gazed inside. “Has the subject shown any sign of mental activity?” he asked still gazing inside. “We thought there was a spike earlier, but it turned out to be a false alarm.” What is it that you’re doing? The man thought to himself. The woman, who was sitting at a computer, suddenly looked at her screen. She began typing furiously. “Dr Cavil! Look at this!” The doctor came to where she was. “Wha…” he began, and she pointed at the screen. At first there was nothing there but a single line. Then, many spikes began appearing, thousands of them by the second. So it’s finally awake He thought. “Initiate emergency procedures. Begin draining the hyrdo components. On my count, maximize generator power!” He commanded. There was a thud sound that came from behind. Dr. Cavil looked back and saw nothing but the lights from the floor panels. Thud. There it was again. He scanned the room. It hit him. The sound was coming from the case. Another thud, then the sound of cracking glass. The doctor stepped forward. Damn, the glass is cracking! “Initiate Deco Red! Insert the magnesium NOW! He shouted and hurried to the case. “Initiating Deco Red now. Inserting the magnesium.” But it was too late. The pressure of the orange substance forced the crack wider until it burst. Its contents spilled out onto the floor, preventing any light from getting through. Then, what was floating inside stepped out. What have we created? Dr. Cavil asked himself. In the following moment, he was torn to sheds. I work to long to be getting paid this low wages thought the security guard. He was standing next to a set of Double doors with steel hinges that shined from the ceiling lights. It was quiet in the corridor. There wasn’t a lot to do down there. Whirring and buzzing could be heard from the other side of the doors. The guard looked at the monitor in front of him and saw that someone was coming. Dr. Cavil rounded the corner and came down the corridor. “Dr.Cavil!” said the guard while swiveling in his chair to face the doctor. “Is Ms. Ashwood still in there?” he asked. “Yeah, been in there for a while. I knocked to see if you she was ok, and she said she was fine.” “I see.” He said. The doctor moved to the doors and they slid open without a sound. He stepped in and the doors shut again. Returning to his monitors, he watched the empty hallways for while. Then there was a thud. And then came the sound of glass shattering. The guard stood up and rapped the door, “Everything ok in there, Dr. Cavil?” No response. He banged again “Dr. Cavil?!” Still no response. Slowly, the guard took the pistol from his side and opened the door. There was blood everywhere, on the walls, on the floor. The equipment was fried. Cautiously, he stepped in-side. “Dr. Cavil…?” Something moved in the shadows. “Who’s there???” It moved again. “Show yourself” he said raising his weapon. Whatever it was, it hurried down the edge of the lab and through the doors. In the brief moment, when the light was on it, the guard realized it wasn’t a who, but rather a what. Quiet. That’s what it was like in the small cabin. A bunk bed to the left, and a table with a lamp to the right. The man lying in bed had his hands behind his head was lost in thought. His face looked as if he was in pain. In his mind, flashbacks reeled: A dark room, a chair in the center. A man was in the chair. His face was covered in blood and sweat. The person seemed to call out to him. Help me, help me. The man started to fade and get farther and farther away… He shook his head. Reaching for the cloth on the bedside table, he got up and wiped his face. That’s the third time this week, he thought. He got up and looked around. I really should clean this place up. The floor was littered with various items ranging from a yogurt cup to a laptop computer. He bent down and picked up name tag that read Kurt Mendez, Head of Defense and Protection. He held it in his hand and stared. Why are we even here…in a place like this? He thought, It’s not like anyway would want to come here. Little did he know that his purpose was not to protect them from outside intrusions, but to protect them from what was inside... “Sir, the press is outside…again. They refuse to leave. What should I tell them?” An important man in an expensive suit said this. He walked toward another man sitting behind a desk. Behind him, floor to ceiling windows looked out onto moreResolved Question: how do i jam mi slide door?

I have a 1950s ranch, we are doing blown in insulation next week, ordering thermal drapes soon and will be caulking the outside of windows, would I be better off letting the dog out to go to the bathroom via the attached garage or thru the sliding glass door over the winter, both open into my kitchen. I have double pane windows, can I still put plastic up? What kind is the most efficient, we live in iowa by the way zone 5a can I use the spray foam in the basement where vent floes go out? do I need to put the silver tape on the seams of my furnace if so where do I NOT put it? should I put a cover on my water heater? it is from nov of 06, can you think of anything else I need to do? we will clean the gutters out for the last time once the leaves are all down moreResolved Question: What is the purpose of the vent that runs horizontally across the top of my windows and my sliding glass door?
I live in Seattle. The condo I moved into has has horizontal vents along the top of my windows and the sliding glass door. The vents are the thickness of the double pane, and have what appears to be a cylindrical chamber in them, which can be opened and closed. However, the odd part is that it appears the chamber cannot be opened in such a manner as to have air flow between outside and inside, the chamber opening is too small. It looks like it can only be either opened to the inside of the house or moved so the vent holes are still sealed within the window frame pointing towards the ceiling. I have never seen windows like this before, but they are frequent in the Seattle area. alright, I have a solid wood not sure what kind anderson door that was installed somewhere between 1994 and 2000 it is double paned, a dog chewed on it (previous owner) and I patched it with wood filler no structural damage, hardware needs replacing and I think the weather strips(they are hard) may need replaced if I can figure out how, it is a standard 6 footer one stationary side, we can afford to spend no more than 500 dollars on a replacement can I just repair this door do you think and all or should i go down to a vinyl, on the anderson website the 400 series looks like ours and it is like 1500 so no way we can rebuy the same door, I just live in iowa and it gets cold as all heck here and so I need to do something before winter? if I can repair it that is 500 that goes towards my kitchen so you see why I want to if possible moreResolved Question: What the heck happened to my window?!?!?
This morning (it's been between 85-95 degrees the last few days, we put to AC on yesterday morning to approx. 75 degrees) I heard a loud POP by my patio door - we have a sliding glass door. Then I heard what sounded like heavy rain against the windows surrounding the sliding glass door (it seems like it's part of the structure of the door rather than a separate window). I looked, and to my horror, it was crackling and cracking into millions of tiny cracks. This lasted about ten minutes. The glass did not fall out, but it's all shattered (like the storefront of a chi-chi boutique) I cannot feel any cracks, which I assume means it's a double paned-window. There is no "place of impact" and there is nothing to indicate anything hit it - why did this happen and how do I fix it?? This is my first place - its about 3 years old. It's part of a large condo complex. moreResolved Question: What type of windows?
I'm enclosing a 10' x 25' screened porch, when finished it will have (1) set of either french doors or sliding glass doors, 3 - 4 windows & will be air conditioned. This room faces south east, so it gets A LOT of direct sun, is very hot, & I'm concerned about making it energy efficient since it will be cooled by a window type A/C unit. As much as I would love to spring for low-e, double-paned, tinted windows...cost is a factor. So here's my question; with the above scenario, how do I get the most "bang for the buck" in regards to windows? My brother-in-law changed out all his windows to the most energy efficient available & was not impressed with the savings on his utility bill. There is a big cost difference in what features you get, & seeing as how this is already a very hot room, I don't want to spend a fortune cooling it. So while trying to keep costs down, should I get low-e? Tinted? Double-paned? Or all of the above? moreResolved Question: Is this house worth 135. 000 in Virgnia in non metropolitan area.?

I live in an apt at ground level. With all the light coming from side double sliding glass doors that are about 5 feet away from the next door house. Now some guy moved in. Since I have a studio you can see all my apt except the bathroom through my only windows, those glass doors. I sleep naked and occasion walk around in just panties and with the blinds closed it is dark as night in here. I hate the idea of having to live in the dark so I can be comfortable.
