Open Question: Why do Illegal Alien Advocates Attempt Sympathy by Turning Criminals into Victims?

By excusing criminal behavior and turning lawbreakers into victims, advocates for illegal aliens encourage corruption and subvert the rule of law. In 2008, former Rep. Chris Cannon described the December 12, 2006, raids on the Swift meat packing plant that resulted in the arrest of 147 illegal aliens on identity theft charges as "inappropriate" and "politically motivated" and he expressed concern that the arrests had ruined Christmas for the illegal aliens and their families.50 No mention was made of the [real] victims, including a person who was in a motorcycle accident and was denied disability payments from the Social Security Administration because the records showed him continuing to work hundreds of miles from his actual residence; nor was any concern expressed for a police training officer in Los Angeles County who was pursued by the IRS for $60,000 in taxes owed by individuals using his stolen SSN, and who was unable to buy a home because his credit rating had been destroyed.51 Following a raid at the Agriprocessors, Inc., plant in Postville, Iowa, that resulted in 297 individuals pleading guilty to identity theft and other crimes, the media and Congressional focus was not on the crimes committed, but on the hardships faced by those who were benefiting from the crimes. Iowa Republican Congressman Tom Latham's spokesman, James Carstensen, told reporters that Latham "views the raid as a blow to families seeking a better life and for the community, which is suffering economically."52 A Wall Street Journal editorial made no mention of the victims of the illegal aliens arrested in Iowa but it did ask if homeland security officials didn't have anything better to do than to raid businesses that hire willing workers. The editorial encouraged Americans to keep things in perspective pointing out that there are only about seven million illegal immigrants in the workforce (5 percent of the total). The Journal then asked if this (seven million people using fraudulent documents and, in many cases, the stolen identities of American citizens) is a big enough problem to justify requiring employers to verify the identity of the persons they are hiring. Its conclusion was that it wasn't.53 During a Congressional hearing on the arrests of hundreds of illegal aliens for identity theft, Democrats focused on the impact that the arrests had on the perpetrators, their families, and the community. No mention was made of the victims. Illegal aliens were absolved of their criminal activity because they "apparently had no idea what a Social Security number or card even was. It may have been the employer tagging them with the number so it could hire them," according to Zoe Lofgren, chair of the House Judiciary subcommittee on immigration.54 This permissiveness, corruption, and disregard for the rule of law has reached such a level that when a legal resident from Honduras who had her identity stolen by an illegal alien contacted 50 senators, 30 government departments, and two governors none of them were willing to help her. The victim continued to receive notices for back taxes on income that she had not earned from the IRS and collection agencies hounded her day and night for unpaid medical, furniture, and cell phone bills. Open Question: Identity theft, what shall we do?

My brother's identity was stolen. He tried to make a police report and they did not want to pay attention. He also did all the procedures to restore his credit, still after a year, minimal results. Finally he is getting some real help. Yesterday we found out someone was claiming unemployment benefits unders his name, even after the Texas workforce commission had DENIED my brother benefits. But someone else was getting them. He now received a letter saying he needs to pay $1000 back or going to jail. He never received benefits, he has paperwork stating he has been working on restoring his credit and that he has filed police reports contacted the FBI and all the other agencies. He has a bag FULL of information. The detective is now paying attention to him. He still does not know he received a letter from TWC. Who would be responsible for paying back those benefits? Do you know if it is easier to catch the culprit when they have claimed benefits..eg cashing the checks, or I think using the debit card. I am wondering how he got all that since our mail box is under lock and key. Any info would be greatly appreciated as to what to do. Also, what can he do about TWC, shouldn't they have verified it was really him? Open Question: Legal advice, accused of credit card fraud?

Recently, I went shopping with one of my friend girls [June 18th] and she purchased many items, some were for me [she got me clothes and a computer], and she had told me that she got tax money back and social security money [I asked why she was buying so much]. Anyways, she signed for the credit card and I had no idea that this was "Identity Theft", I basically just accepted an abundance of gifts for my upcoming birthday. Anyways, the police came to my house and they had surveillance of me and her shopping together, but, I knew NOTHING of the ID theft. I also did not sign for any of the credit card receipts. All I had, basically, was stolen property. I returned all of the property and was very cooperative with the police. To top this all off, I was charged with Theft I, Fraudulant use of credit card--felony, and conspiracy. I want to know if I have a chance of not going to jail [I live in Oregon] or prison for that matter. I was released from jail and have a court date in three weeks. I want to prove my innocence [ I have no criminal record, and am still in high school with a 4.0 GPA] but I probably look guilty as I was WITH her when she was shopping. Although, like I said. All they have is my word saying that I did not do it or know. Please give me advice! Do you think I will have to pay for this? I realize that accepting so many gifts was fishy, but, this "friend" had always went on extravagant shopping trips like this, so, I thought nothing of it more

I am in need of a loan of about $10000 to 15000. My credit score is 580 and I have had some problems in the past. I am not looking for a payday loan or any crap like that. Open Question: Is there anybody willing to help a person in need?

I am on the brink of a life disaster and need help before it's too late. I got scammed by a loan company for over $1000.00 and now i cannot recover. My truck is not registered or insured, my late mom's dog is in need of surgery, and i've had dental work needing to be done for years and i'm worried about a heart attack or other poison stemming from not getting it done. Bad roomates and identity theft has ruined my credit so i cannot get a loan. Never had a mom or dad or any family for that matter so no help there either. I am a normal guy who works full time but just cannot get out of this hole and about to give up soon...I live in Utah and am willing to repay or work off the debt either here or by relocating back home to Southern California. Open Question: Multiple Grand Larceny and Identity Theft Charges NY?

Hello, I know a friend who is 25 in NY and was charged with 3 counts of Identity theft (misdemeanor class E) and 3 count of Grand Larceny ( felony class E) at his arraignment. He obtained credit card information online from a source and used it to purchase items less than a $100. Over 50 packages under $100. He had these packages sent to his college. He is no criminal history. He was issued a search warrant at his dorm where they entered and seized computers, usb drives, CDs. The thing is that he did not use an attorney. The evidence was on paper for him to see. He confessed to using credit card information ( not physical credit card) to purchase these items. He was very remorseful about his actions and that he came up from a poor family. The items he purchased were mostly food items and things you would use in college. He has no intent of selling the items. The computers and usb drives that the police seized are being analyzed at a forsenics lab now. He confessed to the misdeameanor (class E) identity theft and grand larceny of credit card. he has no prior criminal history. He has gotten a private attorney. Will he go to prison for this? And is there a chance he can get the felonies dropped? more

Open Question: My Xbox 360 won't play Grand Theft Auto 4?

My grand theft auto 4 disc worked for a while. Of course there was the usual Microsoft/Xbox crap, where it wouldn't read the disc sometimes, but eventually, it would just freeze at the beginning credits of the game, before it even loads any of the game. All of my other games work, as well as DVD's. So I eventually broke down and bought a brand new copy from Wal-mart, and it stopped at exactly the same spot, and it locks up the whole console, just as before. What the heck!?!? more

I was recently attacked in a post for allegedly stealing "Pascal's Wager", which I know personally that I had never heard of. This is a situation that i've seen before, when one person says something that has been said before, and then other people jump on it and accuse him or her of stealing as if there is no question. To dispel the idea that there is no question, i would like to talk about Alfred Russel Wallace, a man who came up with natural selection within years of Darwin. His credibility has been confirmed even by Darwin, by the fact that he was going to release his ideas before Darwin had released his. Getting news of Wallace's plans to announce his ideas was what got Darwin freaked out enough to release his ideas in time to get credit. Now, if something as brilliant as Natural Selection can be come up with within a few years by two different people, why is it that a BAD idea like Pascal's Wager, which we have now seen has all sorts of holes in it, cannot be come up with by two people within 400 years??? I wouldn't doubt if a new person came up with Pascal's Wager every 2 minutes somewhere in the world. The logic behind it is basically "You have nothing to lose by being religious". Is that so amazingly smart that two people could not have come up with it?? I would like some validation because i don't feel good about being accused like this as if there was no question at all. I'd be lying if i said i was a perfect person, but I believe i deserve punishment only when i have done something wrong. more

Voting Question: Questions about Identity Theft / Address Blocking?

Here is the situation. I had my identity stolen about three years ago. An ex-boyfriend and his sister used my info to open two credit cards in my name. It took about three months to clear up, I have fraud alerts posted with the three credit bureaus. In the last few weeks, the fraud activity seems to be popping up again. My credit card company called me to let me know that someone tried to apply for a card using my old address. And now I am getting magazines and order now - pay later items in the mail. Just like blocking your phone number, is there a way to block a home address or e-mail address? It really ticks me off that there are really scummy people out there who do this. I work my butt off and to have someone out there playing around with my name really ticks me off! Any information is greatly appreciated! more

Resolved Question: Question about Navy EOD and security clearance?

I've been doing some research on the Navy's EOD rating and I'm actually really interested in it. I know you have to pass a physical test and the only thing I can't do is the pull-ups. Anyway, I'm going to talk to a recruiter on Monday, but I had a couple of questions about the security clearance. Or more like concerns. Some people have been telling me it's a secret security clearance and others have been telling me Top secret. Which one is right? Also, I have a juvenile record for petty theft of personal property (I stole money from my mom when I was 13). That is the only legal trouble I have ever been in. Will that DQ me from getting a clearance? Also, I have a couple of bills in collection that I have been and am making payments on. They are medical bills from when I had problems with my appendix and no insurance. Will that DQ me? Resolved Question: Is this a valid reason to break a lease in CA?

I was in-between places- in lease at both- so I had time to move stuff over to my new house. My old landlord entered my space without permission and removed and threw away my mattress and box spring which I hadn't moved yet. They admitted to this and are willing to reimburse if I show them a receipt of purchase. On top of that they asked the new tenant who was taking over my lease thee (and has perfect credit) to pay a double deposit ($4000!) and scared him off last minute so now I am liable to pay rent at both places and can not afford to. Is the landlord intrusion and theft reason legal reason for me to break my lease?The problem is I was leaving my lease 10 months early. They had OK'd me finding them a new tenant. Now they are saying I am still liable for rent there so I need a way out of the lease and I think they gave me one but am just not 100% sure. more

Ok, so i am a 20 yr. old new mom of a 1 yr. old little girl!! I am married and live next door to my mother, we have no money to move just yet i am in the middle of college and i have issues with my mom. She has done some things to my credit, pretty much id theft, and she is very controlling and is just crazy i think. I want to have a good relationship with her because my daughter loves her so much and stays at her house a lot. I try to stay away from her but it's really hard. I am a victim of identity theft and I have a lot of accounts under my social that are not mine. I don't have a job, I worked in PR on summers and seasons because I was studying. Graduated on 2008 from college, I came to the US 9 months ago because I got married and I found out that my credit is awful, when I just have cellphone and student loans under my name. I decided to ask for a credit report and there are a lot of accounts under my name since 2002...*graduated from high school on 2001 in Puerto Rico. All the accounts are from the United States. it an american express gold card I come home from work and the jerk signed me up for it with out asking me. I already have a large credit card for 7,500 that I don't use except for a gym membership. I'm 19, and someone in my family used my SS# to apply for a bank account, a car, and an apartment. I didn't know about this until I tried applying for a credit card and got turned down. I then checked my credit report online and saw that someone in my family had been using my SS# to apply for stuff. The banker told me that if I get turned down for the credit card, I should go see him. What would happen to the person who used my SS#? I'm afraid to go see the banker because I don't want anything bad happening to the person in my family. more

Hi, I just had a little experience.I went to see a primary care physician.They gave me a form i which they asked for each and every information. They asked for common info of mine like address,phone number,employer details,education details,drivers license id then sensitive details like SSN,Credit card details. After filling that form i was left with nothing called private information. I was not feeling comfortable so i denied them giving my SSN.They said its part of policy and everybody gives them that information.They can not charge insurance company without that info.We already had given all our insurance info. and they had verified it over the phone. Then we called insurance co. and they said Some people keep that info. but that is not mandatory.This is between us and the doctor so they can not do anything about it. We saw other patients who were giving each and every info. with so much ease. Then the doctor said this is the realtionship of trust and we can not be flexible in this. But why this trust is one sided..they are not trusting their patients..so that they need all the information including private information of the patient. I denied to give them our ssn and came out and took appointment from another doctor. But still....i don't know other people were cool giving their info. and looking at us like we are mad or something.Is it okay to give medical providers this information.I know that doctor will not misuse it but there are so many employees working for them..then it was not even a secure s/w system..they just kept the info. in a file which were in a shelf and was visible to anybody who comes to them.I mean it was embarassing so thats why i want to know. If identity theft happens in this case with anyone then can that person come out of it? more

Voting Question: Pressing charges against mother, Identity Theft.?

Since I was about 13, perhaps younger..my identity has been used to open up various accounts. There is a comcast account open in my name, the bill is in collections. The amount? $500. The year this account was opened was in 2001. The "culprit" moved and established new service in 2005. In 2001 I was 13 years old, in 2005 I was 17 and still in high school. There is an AT&T bill in my name in collections that is owed $400. There is also a Bank of America checking account with a balance of almost $300, however that was opened in 2007 when I was 18 years old. Theres a few more things I'm sure, but right now those are the ones I'm aware of. I am taking all necessary steps to get my credit cleared of these things since I had no knowledge of them until I started getting collection calls. The culprit, is my own mother. I know who "stole" my indenity, but I haven't told these companies, nor will I tell the police that when I file my police report. Why? Because I don't want to press charges against my mother. They are going to dig deep to prove that the accounts were fraud, including linking the computer and credit cards that were used to open and pay for the accounts. Now if by chance they say they found out who did it and mention my moms name..I obviously can't lie and say I don't know her. As a general question I asked them what if a family member did it and I didn't want to press charges against them. They told me that if I didn't purse the "criminal" they would hold me responsible and make me pay. I find this to be unfair because it's no win. I didn't ask for ANY of this to happen. I just want it off my credit. And as for pressing charges against my mom. my mom had a brain aneurysm last year, had a stroke while she was in the hospital. I'm lucky to even have her right now. She's disabled. She can walk, talk, cook for herself, bathe herself and all that. And she can still remember things. It's hard to described, but she isn't the same. She can hardly get her words out right, and it's frustrating to see her struggling when all she wants is a pair of socks but she can't even get the words out so you're stuck guessing what she wants. Resolved Question: Credit Bureaus and Agencies not reporting correctly?

So I enrolled in an identity theft protection program at my bank because it was free for the first month. I wanted to get my credit reports and scores. I noticed that, among other things, some of the items on my credit reports are missing information like the dates or account numbers, etc. The troubling part is that many of them have not been reported for a long time. So the item will be on my credit, but will have not been reported or updated for months or even years. My understanding was that the companies and creditors had to report accurate, up-to-date information monthly to the Credit Bureaus. So why is nothing happening when they items haven't been reported for so long? Don't the Credit Bureaus keep up on these things? How does all that work? And how do I correct it if, say I pay something off, but it hasn't reported in 2 years, how would I get it to report correctly? Thanks, and PLEASE don't post spam stuff here. I was in a town called Dubois PA and i was put on probation.. just before i was supposed to be taken off.. i started being harassed by a psychotic ex girlfriend.. She made a scene at the store i worked at.. and i was arrested and taken in.. they let me go the same night.. but soon after the incident they started cutting my hours.. until finally they told me not to come in anymore.. for some bullsh@t reasons. as a direct result i could not pay my fines.. and the judge told me that i had one week to pay them off knowing i had just lost my job.. So i left because i didnt see any other choice then to go back to jail. Now i have found that the charges are no longer on my public record but there is a warrent for failing to appear in court.. but the ex girl friend has .. some new charges falsifying police reports and some kind of fraud and theft.. which i believe is referring to my case.. because she used my credit card while i was in jail. But her charges where dropped.. now i dont know what that means for me.. Do you think that in light of all this they might forgive my leaving and drop the charges since they know she lied and my losing my job not paying fines and leaving state were all a direct result of her actions? What should i do.. i have a year old son and im trying to make things right.. but i cant do that if im in prison...Well I'm not going back alive.. so thats not an option.Yeah i may try to reason with them once i can afford a lawyer i know i cant go back with a public defender again.. thats what got me in so much trouble to begin with. My husband and I have six credit cards with three companies (each of us has an account with each company). Is it better to have more credit cards to your disposal or fewer? Is having so many cards bad for my credit overall? I was thinking of cancelling several of the cards because they are just sitting there with zero balance. Each card has a very high line of credit (I have been a stickler for on time payments and never miss a payment) and I understand that is nice to have that cushion for emergencies. My 15 year old son is a victim of identity theft. I tried calling experian and equifax but they don't deal with Minors Only Trans union deals with minors and there no help either. I faxed in his birth certificate and social security card like a week ago and they still haven't got it. and even if i clear things up with them, I still need to clear things up with the other credit bureaus. I'm calling this person out on being a liar because I don't believe them for a second. But I thought I'd ask anyway. They have had a bunch of charges placed, they've broken their probation twice and been to court a few times and paid fines but never really did any jail time. They've had their probation extended once and continued, and this is the second time it has been continued. They have another court date set for the 26th, but according to them and their family and boyfriend, they only have "3 months of probation to go, and no jail time, just community service, and [they] don't need a probabtion officer because it's only 3 months and then they're done"... At least 30,000 people nationwide had been victimized in an intricate scheme by a loosely knit ring of 30 people, mostly Nigerian immigrants, according to law enforcement authorities and court documents. More than $50 million had been drained from credit cards and bank accounts. Oops. Not a perfect poster boy. The press release and the Web site were scuttled, and lawyers even considered dropping Mr. Alli in favor of a plaintiff whose offense was less serious. But last month, the lawsuit went forward in his name — without publicity.
