Open Question: Help with my factory radio on a 03 Pontiac Grand Prix?

My car has low mileage, and I always maintain it. However, yesterday while driving, the display on the radio went dim. You can barely see the clock, etc. The radio functions fine otherwise. The dashboard still lights up at night as does the cd slot, etc. Is this a bulb issue inside the radio itself? I have seen replacement ones online..... Or is it something more complicated like wiring? more

as replacements? Part of cap and trade is a stipulation that the building code in CA be met before a home can be sold. If you need to replace the toilet, you can only buy toilets that save water. If you need to replace your washing machine and all you could buy were energy efficient washing machines that is what you would buy? Why do the same manufacturers offer both with the old fashioned energy guzzlers at a much lower price than the energy efficient ones? Soon the only light bulbs available will be energy efficient. Manufacturers can only stay in business if they offer what the people want. Appliances and fixtures only last 10-15 years. Couldn't homes become green with the free market rather than forcing such expenses on people who can't afford to do it all at the same time? more

Voting Question: Changing headlight on 2000 Hyundai Tiburon?

I've done some research and it seems like the only options that I have found is to replace the whole housing that includes the high beam bulb as well as the replacement projection light. Resolved Question: 2006 mustang break lights are not working right?

There are three bulbs on each side of the mustang for the breaks... i just got my car like 3 days ago and on one side only one light was lit on the other only 2. So i bought replacement bulbs and every one that was out i replaced but still only 2 on each side worked, the ones that dont work are matching (the two most interior lights one on each side). The second filaments light up when they are supposed to just glow when i put on my light switch or whatever in the car but i thought when i step on the breaks all six lights go on..... is there a wiring issue or are those lights not supposed to come on when i break? more

I have a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2, and it has recently had work done to it to fix its valves. It went back to emissions and failed simply because the Check Engine Light wasn't working at all. I checked the bulb and it was out, so I replaced it. Still didn't work. I made sure that it wasn't just something dumb like I put it in wrong or broke the bulb on replacement, since It worked in the other cell spots. The car can't even have a chance of passing if the light doesn't work, but I had seen it work about a year ago. Any ideas anyone?? more

Resolved Question: How do you replace a front parking light on an 06 VW Jetta?

Not sure why, but my 06 Jetta TDI (with about 52K mileage) blew two lights almost at the same time - rear right signal (which I replaced) and also the front right parking light. I bought the replacement bulb. The parking light looks dinky and unimportant. I think I know where it goes, but I don't know how to access the socket. I wouldn't even care, except the car has an idiot light on continuously! Can anyone tell me why this light is important and how I can replace it? I could take it to the dealer, but this will eat up a lot of time and probably cost more than a $3 bulb is worth (I'm in extended warrantee now with a deductible). more

and its a 12k temp, at first they were really really blue and i have noticed that when they warm up they light go more to a birght bright whitish color, and not so much blue anymore. im looking for a reason on why that would happen, are those faulty bulbs that need replacements? more

I have a bedside reading lamp with a warning printed on it to ONLY use 40 watt type S11 bulbs in it. I have replaced most of the light bulbs in my apartment with CFL bulbs and am wondering if there is an energy saving bulb that I can use in this lamp. LED? CFL? Something else?I'm specifically asking for types of bulbs that have the correct size of threading. It is inacurate and not helpful to state that *all* CFL bulbs will work in the same socket. more

Resolved Question: why is my fluorescent light fixture not working?

I have two fluorescent light fixtures in my kitchen. They are approximately 2 years old. I have never had any previous issues with them but suddenly, one of them stopped working with no prior problems. I tried replacing the ballast with a new one, but it is still not working. The original ballast was 120V 60 Hz, 1.57 amps. The replacement ballast is 120V 60Hz, not sure what the amps are on the new ballast, does it make a difference? It should be getting power because when I disconnect the power source to the fixture, none of the other lights on that switch work but when I have the fixture connected the other lights work, just not this particular one. I do not want to replace the fixture since I have two matching and would have to replace both if I replaced one. I know that the bulbs are working because I have tested them on the other fixture. What else could the problem be? The fixture is one of these http://www.lightinguniverse.com/products/view.aspx?family=200851OK so I changed the ballast from the working fixture and it works! Put the new ballast that I just bought in the fixture that was previously working and it does not work. So either the ballast I bought was no good or the amps matter. I found that for turn signal lights and the rear light, the bulbs can be easily replaced after removing the plastic covering in the trunk. However, I am unable to find the "brake light". Resolved Question: Do ballasts for fluorescent lights (long tube T12s) still use electricity even if the bulb's dead?

I've got 22 different fixtures with those darn ballasts and I'd rather not use all of them for the various rooms - Those "natural sunlight" Phillips lights are putting out so much more light than the older tubes, I can do with less. So, I'd like to leave a few of the dead tubes in there and just halve the working lights - But if the ballast is going to keep eating electricity (like cell phone chargers, even when not in use), then I might just put lights in the slots anyway. I can't wait for an LED replacement system that imitates a fluorescent tube!!! more

Voting Question: My turn signal quit working in my 1995 Mazda B2300 2WD Pick-up truck?

This is not going to be easy best I can tell: - I already replaced the hazard/turn-signal flasher. - I have checked every fuse in the engine and dash-side compartments and even tried new fuses to be sure. Also there are no empty slots for fuses to go into. So nothing is missing. - I have replaced the turn signal switch. - The hazard lights do light all 4 of the corner bulbs and all bulbs do light up, so it's not the bulbs. I can remember when the turn signals quit. It was a gradual processtaking months during which they started acting like they were shorting out untilfinally, they just quit working. Is there some kind of replacement wiring harness I can buy that wouldbe an easy fix? I am stuck at this point and have even considered analternate wiring job with separate switch for turn signals- but wouldthat pass inspection if it didn't automatically shut off after a turn? I have replaced turn signal relay, turn signal switch, and I took out all the fuses in the fuse box and observed carefully and they were not blown. Further, there is no more room in fuse box for another fuse to be put, so I know nothing is missing. Also, when you turn the hazard lights on, all 4 bulbs will light up, so I know it's not a blown bulb. I can remember when the turn signals quit. It was a gradual process during which they started acting like they were shorting out until finally, they just quit working. Is there some kind of replacement wiring harness I can buy that would be an easy fix? I was just wondering if you could answer one more question? When you say "auto cancels" do you mean that it has to automatically shut off the turn signal after you complete a turn? Resolved Question: What do you think is wrong with my laptop and how can I fix this problem?

Here we go, Ive read many screen problems but not sure if they are the same as mine. So im going to try my best to describe it. Im running Windows XP Its a HP Pavilion dv4000 (laptop) About 2 weeks ago I started to see a tint of red in the corner of my screen. Everyday the tint of red would transform and move on the screen.Otherwise, if it was located in the bottom left corner one day and then shifted to the middle of the screen. The bottom left corner looked perfectly normal again. I lived with this for a while until my screen turned black. My cpu would still be running but the screen went out. Then I realized that the image was still there. The light bulb (?) was not on. If I put a flashlight or placed the laptop under bright light I can see the screen. So now im thinking its maybe just : 1. Burnt out light bulb? 2. Bad chip somewhere? Now when I shut my laptop off and let it sit for a while and restart it. The screen comes on perfectly fine and theres no red at all and it looks like its working fine. But then after a short period of time, anywhere from 5-15 minutes. The light goes out on me again but the image is definately on screen. My question basically is this: What do you think is causing this problem? bad screen? bulb? chip? What can I do to fix this problem? I would love to keep this computer and simply repair it since it does give me that hope for 10 minutes after restarting it. Ive been told a screen replacement is so expensive that its better to buy a new laptop (if thats even the problem). But then again Ive seen videos on youtube of people having screen problems and they replace a $20-30 chip and its fixed. Thanks for any help. more

I left my HID lights on for more than five hours yesterday, and the driver side lowbeam blue HID light is broken. How do i replace it and how much would it cost? Do I need to buy the whole conversion kit or do I just need the replacement bulb? Do you know any places or shops that can help me with this problem? I live in San jose, Ca. P.S. I've bought two of thes fixtures from a well-known HOME improvement store. After the installation of each and soon there after the fist use, one of the light bulb has burned out. I have a 2005 Honda Civic SE. I went to walmart to buy replacement bulbs and the book said 9006. They were not 9006s they were 9005s because a 9006 has one groove and the and the 9005s had 2 grooves and that's what I needed. Anyhow, I replaced the bulb witch is the high AND low beam. It doesn't work but the other bulb worked fine since I replaced both at the same time. Whats wrong? The bulb has apparently blown out that's why I replaced it. The new bulb isn't working though. I broke the glass on the tail light of my mum's 97' nissan altima. She went to a car part store and bought an entirely new tail light. I've just sold my car to someone and my car failed the state inspection because the fog lights didn't work. The dealer wants to charge me $200, so I looked up some info. I think it has tabs holding it in place, but they're not moving at all when I try to depress them with the screwdriver. I know how to replace the bulbs once I get this piece off, but this part is giving me trouble. Thanks in advance!!!! more

Voting Question: Why did GE quit making 50W indoor floodlights?

I have a kitchen/breakfast ceiling with just enough 50W floods to provide good light and now I can't get replacement bulbs. Was this industry choice or government mandate?I contacted GE and they said their 50watt bulb (product code 48691) was replaced by the 45watt. I contacted www.bulbman.com and they had another manufacturers 50watt indoor floodlight. It too was no longer available. Of course I'd like the 50 watt; but I really wanted to know why they are no longer available. Government intervention in the market place? more

Resolved Question: What causes Carburetor motorcycle engine to backfire on start-up?

Bike: 2007 Hyosung GT650R (Stock, still original parts except normal service replacements oil and filter and adjustments) My bike has backfired on me three times now since its last service in Sept. twice in october 2 weeks apart and just last week. I have not taken it back to the mechanic yet as it’s not happening all the time, and I'd like to give some direction on the problem. The engine is a 90 degree V-twin, with Carburetors. The mechanic adjusted the fuel mixture since he said the bike was running lean. Don't know if that's relevant or not. Prior to the last service, the bike never backfired. each time, it occurred during stat-up. either just as i press the starter button, or it cranked once and then backfired. I looked on the internet, and other people have had similar comments, but they say it's normal or not a big deal. Needless to say, when my bike goes bang like a gun, it concerns me greatly. Other people didn't mention having this happen, but the tail light bulb was broken twice from the shock. The weather was not cold (not below 30 F) but wasn’t really warm either (not above 50 F). Always start the bike with at least ¾ choke, and in neutral. So basically, any idea what the cause could be, and recommend how to fix it (beside sell it)? Also, don’t know if this is related or not. There is a hose between the rear shock and kickstand that I noticed has a liquid dripping slowly out during idling. Revving does not change the rate of drip. But it smells like gasoline. Don’t know where the hose originates yet. But if this helps of you know what this hose it, please let me know. Any help will be greatly appreciated. more

I just bought and installed a track light that came with GU-10+C bulbs. One of the bulbs was defective. So while I'm waiting for a replacement to be mailed to me from the manufacturer, I ran to the local hardware store to buy a temp replacement. I could only find GU-10 and notice that it is dimmer and doesn't have a "backlight" effect to it. The "+C"s tend to light up the glass light covers and create an effect that the regular GU-10 does not. Is that what the "+C" does? I'm just wanting to know because I know that these factory bulbs won't last long and I want to know which type of replacement bulbs I should order when I replace all four at one time. Thanks! more

Voting Question: 2004 Suzuki Forenza Rear Spoiler 3rd Light Replacement?

I've owned a 2004 suzuki forenza since new. prior to the last time i had my car serviced/maint. I noticed my LED lights in my rear spoiler ...some were out so i asked the dealer (Lithia Suzuki Reno ,NV) because i had the bulbs repalced in 2005...w/o a problem. This time time they tell me i'd have to replace my whole spoiler or disconnect the LED and rehook up my 3rd light in the rear window. Service said they dont know how to fix these.. but they replaced them once before 2yrs ago???WTF they have no record of that ever happening There must be a solution to this other than replacing my entire rear spoiler which is around $600....its auto body !
