Resolved Question: Do you find this story funny? [Very short] :P .?

My sister just came home from the bars with some guy she met. They were making out on the couch earlier and moved upstairs to the bedroom after a while. They started making some noise, at first I thought it was a loud game of hopscotch, but it sounds like they were having sex! They have been getting louder and louder, like a speeding train, and are quaking and shaking the house, its falling down! Our house is fragile because Hurricane Katrina hit it and our parents haven't fixed it yet (they work 80 hours a week each). The kitchen is collapsing as I am typing and pieces of the office ceiling (the office is right under the bedroom) are falling down on me. My sister threatened to beat me with whips and chains if I interrupted her fun but I am afraid of losing our house! I am worried this rough sex might be killing her; she is only 12 years old and too young to die! She is also pregnant and the shaking might harm the baby. Should I risk a beating and ask that they quiet down? more

Open Question: Do you know any companies/organizations that can support me in getting my daughter to Teen Camp?

Hello, My name is Laura Arciniega, I have four beautiful children ages 14, 9, 7 and 5. I grew up in East Palo Alto, CA and I am the sixth of nine children. Growing up in East Palo Alto, I made some bad choices. I made choices that, in my mind, were going to benefit me and only me, not knowing how it affected others, especially my kids. I was involved in gangs, drugs and all of the things that come with growing up in a home where both parents worked all day to provide for their children and I had all the time I needed to destroy my life. I didn't have the support and knowledge that I have now. Klemmer & Associates (http://klemmer.com/index.asp) has helped me see inside of myself and really see how valueable, beautiful and powerful I am. Today, I am proud to say I am an accepting, passionate and committed women who's desire is to help "At Risk Teens", like myself, make better choices for themselves. Help me "Empower OUR youth TODAY for a better Future Tomorrow". My comittment to our community is to enroll more parents, teens and members of the community to empower each other so that together we start a NEW track of decisions that will benefit everyone. Every change starts with ourselves and today I am choosing to empower my teen to make more effective decisions that will move her forward. I am reaching out to you asking for financial support to send my 14 year old daughter, Laura Verenise Soto, to Teen Camp. Teen Camp is a five day course specifically designed for empowering teens and helping them develop tools to create an exciting future. Exercises in this course are tailored to speak to the hearts and minds of young adults. Teens receives the knowledge from two adult courses in one fun-filled week with other teens preparing for their future. At Teen Camp, teens will discover the value of working as a team with their peers. They will learn to trust others and develop trust-worthiness in themselves. Teens will learn how resistance (to their parents, teachers, responsibilities, etc) affects a cycle of resentment in their lives. They will also have experiences that will allow them to reconcile painful experiences that have been holding them back. As in all levels of training, teens will learn about the power of belief systems, known as sunglasses, and learn to recognize and remove the belief systems that are preventing them from the life and future they want. The mission for teens in Camp is: To transform each teens' experience of themselves so that they feel more personal responsibility and self-esteem in their lives. To assist teens in creating a foundation of principles and values that serve them in being more effective individuals and society members. To allow a place of trust and safety where teens can talk about what is important to them and identify past hurts and resentments. To give teens tools and techniques that will assist them in clearer communication as well as give them ways to set and accomplish personal goals. To create an atmosphere where teens can make friends and enjoy open and honest relationships with each other. Tuition for the camp is $2,095 US and I have raised $1,063 already, I have until July 10th to pay it in full. Any help that you can give me is greatly appreciated. If you are open, willing and able to help, please contact me via email for information on how you can do so. Vere (my daughter), will be writing a letter upon her return to share her experience at Teen Camp and I will send you a copy of the letter. In advance thank you for your support and encouragement. Open Question: Rate my action novel plz ?

They say that every job has it' perks. A glance at the ritzy 6 bedroom mansion in Mulbery Heights,Istanbul owned by Christian Zefran proved that his was no exception. Had Agent Nina Williams not known better, she'd have assumed it to be the epicenter of his empire. Agent Williams had studied the layout of his "little vacation home" as he had quipped on elephone call , the entire morning and had memorized it flawlessly. As a matter of fact, it happened to be just one of the various multi-acre properties owned by Zefran throughout Europe. Nina zoomed the binoculars onto the 4th floor of the building. 350m. Not bad Even though intel was adamant that the roofs were clear, Nina never ruled out the presence of snipers. Her sharp-shooting skills meant that she could take down a sniper with extreme accuracy, yet Nina was an agent who always did her homework on her target. The discreet Kevlar pad embedded on her gray sleeveless could protect her from most high-caliber gunfire. Sniper fire, though, was an altogether different matter. Nina's expertise was not restricted to firearms alone. Her deadly martial-art skills were often lethal, making her too dangerous for capture missions. The hard layer of Iron on her warrior boots worked to enhance the impact of kicks. The water-proof webbing beneath it improved her stability. It was time for the action. She crouched and stealthily made her way to the river from her hiding spot in the woods. The golden sunlight bathed the gleaming green water. Nina stopped by the edge of the water and stared at the imposing building. There would be plenty of targets in there. Some of them would definitely be armed with guns of much higher firepower than the accurate yet soft Eagle pistol in her beanbag. And somewhere in there Christian Zefran would be there too. The same man who was responsible for the death of three agents. Hell, she was going to do this if it would kill her. Taking a deep breath, she dived. The freezing water hit her face splat. Kicking her legs free, she propelled herself forward. Thankful the current was in in her favour, she swam faster. Being submerged under the surface meant she could remain unseen. Stealth was as important as intel. Often, having the element of surprise meant the difference between life and death. The green dial on her wrist showed her it was nineteen seconds since she had "gone under". Years of diligent underwater training and Nina could her breath for 3 minutes. On a more practial basis, she could play amphibian for about 90 seconds. Interestingly, there were no fishes in the water. There was no risk of getting bitten in any waters near Zefran. Unless there were any fishes. And there were no fishes. Very interesting indeed. {Berlin Episode} By the time Nina had swam over to the other side, the sun had gone down the valley. She pulled herself off and went prone for a few seconds. Conviced she was not spotted, she stealthily moved into the foliage of the garden. Nina crouched and made her way to the East of the mansion. Music and the sound of people socializing played over the air. Lights were on in virtually all the floors of the building. To her enormous relief, there were not much people by the pool. As the chilly wind blew,a man came out with two blondes supporting him on either arm , laughing as they lead him to the car park. Away from her. From her position in the foliage opposite the pool, Nina stealthily slipped closer to towards the mansion more

Open Question: What would you want your babysitter trained in?

I would like to become an EMT, and do some babysitting on the side... should I take this course (CPR certification is required to attend EMT courses) or should I take a regular CPR class? This class seems a lot more thorough than a regular CPR class. Heartsaver AED The Heartsaver AED Course teaches the basic techniques of adult and child CPR and the use of an AED. Students also learn about using barrier devices during CPR and giving first aid to choking victims. The intended audience is all lay responders, such as firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards, coaches, personal trainers, employees in the workplace, family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death, other lay rescuers, and those who may have a need to respond to a cardiac emergency. http://www.chiltonmemorial.org/training_... This is the link to the hospital offering the courses, which ones should I take for what i'm interested in? Can anyone who works in what i'm interested in help me out.I was considering taking the first aid courses aswell, seeing as the heartsaver course im interested in doesn't mention first aid training in anything other than choking victims.Yeah, they do have EMT courses that teach the basic first aid, but I have to see if I can fit in college classes with the EMT lifestyle. I might want to just babysit for a while to get money and I want to make sure I am 100 % qualified to watch kids which includes being trained in first aid and CPR. Without these classes i'd be looking at lower pay too, which at my age isn't going to cut it anymore. 6 bucks an hour was great when I was 13 but now as an adult I need atleast 9 dollars an hour especially if im going to be taking all these courses. more

Resolved Question: What is the average age a child is when potty trained?

I am the youth minister at my church, and from time to time, we have parents from the parish asking me to hook them up with babysitters. A mother of a 19 month old wants a babysitter. I have a kid in the gorup that is interested but wants to know if that means diapers. I have never changed a diaper in my life and really have no idea when diapers are over, so at the risk of sounding dumb, would a 19 month old be potty trained? more

Open Question: Should people be interviewed first before they are aloud any animal.?

This potentially could save a lot of money and suffering on animals if people where properly screened so to find out if they are suited to having pets. Too often I see on Y&A stupid questions where owners are put it this way bluntly putting themselves and others at risk because they do don't know how to handle a animal like a dog. They associate it more as a human in a way instead of an animal. I have noticed that answers given that are common scenes but may be seen as harsh are given the thumbs down. A woman wanting to know if it is ok having a baby and a dog but the dog was there first. In a nut shell these people and many others put there pets first instead of there own flesh and blood. Talking about how upset the dog will be when the baby arrives and others sharing there experience by smothering the dog with treats when playing with the child so the dog does not get jealous. Is the world gone mad, animals are animals. Yes they feel emotion etc but on a different level than humans, animals have a different understanding to how the world works and how to work with it. There rules are different too which could be beneficial and harmful to humans. Humans find it easy to be cruel and naive towards animals which could result in suffering or confusion to the animal. Not everyone is suited to raise and keep animals. Too common are people to follow trends, diving into the deep end and buying a strange or exotic animal because there spoilt child has seen one in there favourite move, only for the child to get bored and ignore it. We have a habit of a throw away nation and not have a care in the world for anything We have a duty to look after our planet and what is in it. People should not get away with abusing it and have to be educated. Personally I think people have lost touch and need to realise that they are animals and that humanisation is not a form of training or good for a pet. Without training and guidance anyone can get a pet. How can we fight animal cruelty without education. You can still love your pet and have a good bond but always remembering that line between animal and human. Is there any people out there with common seance and believe we are doing more harm than good to the animal nation?I am from the Uk. I wonder would it work if anyone breeding and selling could be trained to know what family could suit a pet and that any private selling has to be done through a kennel club for instance to make sure the pet is going to a family that has the gen?I know letting pets breed with no need is a major issue but what I worry about is the disturbing closeness some people have with there pets. There misunderstanding of the animal world and behaviour can have grave consiquences, thats why I have chosen this as a concern. Good animals turning bad becasue of not understanding animals. Dogs function by having a leader and that should be no matter what a human but too many time I have seen humanisation of dogs spoiling them and making them a potential risk. A very few owners will make sure that the dogs know there place and they are seen as bad becasue people of the softly softly brigade don't believe in controling pets anymore. In a lot of cases it is the dog that is the dominant leader not the owner? That is worrying, anything can happen and there is no way perdicting it. People have to stop the soft attatude with pets and wake up that they are infact animals. more

Open Question: What's your view on speed cameras in general?

Mine are 1: Cash and license stealing devices 2: A lot of them in ridiculous unnessecary locations 3: All the bother when only 4-5% of accidents are from excessive/inappropiate speed, what about the other 95% or so of accidents (drink driving, lack of attention, dangeorus manoveres) 4: You can't measure a safe speed purely 5: A lot of speed limits are either ridiculously high or ridiculously low 6: The position of many speed cameras makes them cause more danger than they save 7: If people moan about speeding and how dangerous it is then what's the point in having cars? what was the point in inventing them? when the whole point of them is to get around quicker, less stressful and for the thrill and enjoyment of driving 8: It's only the most ridiculous drivers who go too fast for the road conditions, and they'd b considered 'safer' than someone doing 5mph over the limit on a straight long flat open empty road 9: Yes speeding does have its dangers like bigger impact in accidents, longer breaking distance etc but if people learn to drive better, have more training than just a simple pass your test target and pay more attention to the road, think ahead and all rather than worrying far more about their speedo to make sure they're not doing 1mph over the limit then the accident probably wouldn't happen in the first place nevermind how fast or slow you were going (as Jeremy Clarkson has said on previous occasions, else what's the point in having cars at all? Open Question: Would decreasing one's caloric intake slow their metabolism...?

Say someone consumes 1850 calories per day for maintenance (their exercise consisting of 15 minutes of brisk walking daily and 15 minutes of strength training every other day) If they were to reduced their intake to 1500-1600 per day could it come to decrease their metabolism over time? Open Question: Is a "Dog Kennel Run" cruel?

I'm getting my first miniature beagle in two weeks and I'm wanting to keep her partially indoors and outdoors. She'll be fine in the house once she is house trained but when it comes to letting her outside I'm worried. I live next to a highway that is very unforgiving to pets that people in my neighborhood have had. Its sad and I'm looking to be very protective of my dog while its outside. I've seen dogs tied outside by people for years. I think its absolutely cruel and I'll never tie a dog up outside. I've looked into the underground fences and the wireless fences but as my mother said, "how would you feel to run 90 feet and get the shock of your life". So with all this being said I've decided to build a dog kennel run that will give my puppy around 100 square feet of room to run and play (minus the area that she'll need for a dog house). I'm also buying an A-frame room to put on the kennel so that rain doesn't cause the ground to get muddy. Instead of having a regular dirt/grass floor, I'm putting plenty of the very soft very fine cut wood chips down so that she'll be comfortable. I forget the name of the woodchips, but I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about because they are sold in pet departments everywhere. As said before, she'll be mostly an indoor dog! I'm looking so forward to having a new little friend in the family! But I'm looking for a safe way for her to stay outside for a couple of hours without the risk of a neighbors dog attacking her or her attempting to chase a car. Does my "kennel run" sound fine? Or is cruel? Oh and yes, she's getting fixed at the appropriate age so I don't contribute to the puppy population! I'm looking for advice and input. Intelligent answers please. more

Voting Question: Trick training a horse walk throughs? =)?

My horse is young and incredibly intelligent. He's as well-behaved as it gets; no bucking, rearing, kicking, biting, or thowing fits. He's a sweetheart, and he loves performing tricks. Ive already taught him to kiss, bow, jump, and other basic tricks on que, but I'd like to be able to do a few others. I know the precautions and the risks, so I would appreciate no critism or "horses arent circus animals" because i know he's not a clown, but we bond over tricks and he really enjoys learning and making me proud. So can anyone walk me through, lie down, stand up, shake, and/or any others? Anything would be fantastic :D Thank you very much. more

Resolved Question: are baby rides at the fair safe?

im just wondering if thhe little kid rides like trains or something like the farris wheel or marry-go-round would be safe while im pregnant. neither move faster then a wheelchiar would. im asking because i have a 14 month old who loves these rides but im 27 weeks along. would it be safe for me to go on them with him? i understand that the ones that throw you around (like rollercosters, scamblers, ect) aren't safe and i would never risk them. but what about the ones designed for little kids and their parents? i can't see how it would hurt... what do you think?no one could tell by looking at me that im pregnant im just not showing very much.. so the workers wouldn't notice. more

Voting Question: What should I do to improve?

I am 27. Due to our economy, I still live at home. I never moved out but have aspirations to do so badly. When I was 22, I joined the navy only to get rejected after 6 weeks of training. I know. Thats screwed up. Ever since 18, I was in and out of college not sure what I wanted to do. At 25, I decided to finally pick up my dream and pursure criminal justice. The thing that held me back the most was getting to college level math which I eventually overcame!!! Math is my weak point. I never had a gf in my life and am a virgin to this day. I now have 30 credits to go till I get my associates degree. Ups, who I have been working for for almost 3 years, pays my way so that mommy don't have to. I hate leaching! I'm no leach. I make not much money each week, but save what I can along with giving my mom money towards bills. I do stuff around the house. I'm telling you all this to give a background before I ask my questions. Doing this will help especially the female readers answere better to this. I feel as though I am misunderstood by people. Though I know it is not THEIR responsibility to do so as I too have work to be done on my part. I work out every day or almost everyday. Last year, I went from 298 lbs to 210 at the hieght of 6'4. Now I'm cut like Wolverine. lol. My hobbie are drawing, comic books, books, comedy, walking my dogs, video games, ect. Tonight is Saturday. I hope the people who read this live in southenr New Jersey and can point me in the right direction as to where to go to meet girls. I was thinking Adelphia's tonight but then again, there is a girl that works there who kinda was playig with my mind last class and towards the end, went from friendly flirty, to mean and cold. I dunno. lol. I hear thats a cool place to meet chicks but I don't want to run the risk of her being there or else I'll feel stupid. lol. Stone Grill seemes cool. The bar tenders are hot. But I get nowhere with the patrons as I do't know how to play the GAME. I don't drink when I go to bars. I don't want to be a sloppy mess, plus I'm driving. I know this thread is long so please if anyone's going to do this, don't be smart and answere saying that it's long. If you feel that way, why answere at all? hahahaha. So.... where could I go? And ladies, what do you look for in a guy? I am almost tempted to put my pic on here but that might not be a good idea due to privacy issues. but I hope you can all take the time to read this. I thank you. I can't be considered anti-social since I am reaching out to the public and going out in public. It just seems like people all thinnk I'm poison. lmao. Thanks and sorry for the long rant. more

Voting Question: Does anyone think that Health and Safety is now becoming the worst rules in society ever?

It's gone way too far, it's absaloutely ludicrous. I know this is more of a rant than a question and I know the community guidelines is not to rant but I want to hear everyone's opinion on what they encountered on these pathetic regualtions. I was staggered when I heard on the radio that school children had to wear goggles for BLU TACK! And there's a lot more than that! 1. Children banned from running around in the playround due to accidents 2. You cannot put up a poster without a member of staff 3. Can't use the foam spray in case you would "slip" and be badly "injured" 4.You can't try out earrings because of a stupid H&S risk 5. School trips have been cancelled for precaution issues. 6.You have to wear a helmet to skateboard, go on your scooter 7. You cannot go near expeditions or any sort of display of art up close because you could "knock it over" 8.Can't buy antiques unless you inform the staff you are intending to purchase it. 9. Children can't bounce on big trampolines because the springs could break and they could fall through (which is VERY unlikely to happen) 10. You have to have stepladder "training" before becoming a proffessional worker like a window cleaner. The list goes on. And also which angered me the most is that I registered for a job at the Animal Welfare Trust and they couldn't take me on because of the three idiotic words, which I'm not going to mention. So that means I can't register until next year! Stephen Fry said "Health and Fucking Safety are the four worst words in the English language" I couldn't agree more, because it's not providing us with any jobs, children can't have fun, we're being sued just for small incidents. What are your opinions on it? What do you think can be done before it all comes to an end and we can't do anything at all? This has got to be stopped.I meant to put three exclamation marks after "This has got to be stopped!!!" more

Resolved Question: Questions about Hepatitis C?

The other day I was in NYC to get my stitches removed in my leg, while I was on the subway I noticed that my leg was bleeding, and it continued to bleed while I was in penn station, and on the train ride home. I also used a public restroom in penn station. I am worried that because of walking around with this open wound that I put my self at risk for hep c, should I be worried? Or am I being too obsessive about this. more

Voting Question: Ouch! Dog bit me! What do I do now? How do I confront the owner on the issue?

One of my good friends, Sarah just adopted a 3 year old Bichon/Poodle mix. She adopted her from an older lady who couldn't care for her anymore. She picked her up a few hours ago. Well she asked if I could keep an eye on Precious (thats the dog) for an hour while she went to pick up some supplies. I'm a good inbetween stopping point. Well she hasn't even been gone 20 minutes and my gosh this dog is a terror. The dog barks and whines continously, Lack of training I'm sure and being in an unfamiliar environment. But I learned very quickly how demanding this dog is and it comes at a price. the dog had already been out to the bathroom. She had water down on the floor. She had already eaten before she came. so when she started whining again I just let her whine a minute because I couldn't get right to her. And low and behold she bit me. I was actually cleaning up a shredded toy and I was bent over and she bit me on the bottom, and then I turned around to tell her "Ugh Ugh" in a stern voice and she bit me in the shin. I bled a little in both places but nothing a little soap and water, neosporin and a band aid won't help. And the dog did come with her shot records and she is up to date. How should I bring this up to my friend Sarah about her dog? I mean she is to need some training that is for sure. I feel like I need to let her know what her dog did, am I right? Or she will wonder why her dog is crated when she gets here. After the dog bit me I pulled out my dogs old crate and I put her in there because she had bit me and she was acting a little mean toward my dogs. I'm pregnant so I'm not taking any risks. How do I tell her this? I feel bad that this happened?By the way Sarah has a 5 year old son, James. She was going to surprise him with the dog this afternoon.ADD: I've never seen behavior like this in a dog, no wonder the lady couldn't handle her anymoreBut how do I bring it up. I'm going to tell her. She was so excited over this dog too. But I don't think she needs to go home to a house with a child right now. And I don't know how Sarah would react to that. I mean I don't know how much to tell her or suggest. Should I just tell her what happened and let her take it from thereAnd even after I tell her all this and she still decides to take the dog home to her son, I'm going to feel so bad if something happens to him (her son that is)And she said she asked the woman if the dog was good with Kids and dogs. And she said "Well she hasn't been around many kids or dogs but the few she has been around she has been fine. The lady got rid of the dog because she didn't have the energy to care for her and her grandchildren were coming to live with her, so that is kind of a red flag right there to meShe's here, I'll let you know what happensUPDATE: It could have gone better. Anyways the lady won't take the dog back, she made it clear when Sarah got the dog. Sarah said she is going to go ahead and take the dog home and see how the dog does. Give it a few days of adjustment. If it doesn't work out she said she will take the dog to the shelter. (Sadly I don't think the dog would pass the temperment testing) I'm a little worried about what is going to happen. But that is Sarahs choice more

Resolved Question: geography assesment is there anything wrong with this?

the question is about the army base near Lulworth and if it should be given back to the residence of Tyneham of kept as a base Right Honourable and Honourable members of parliament, as the minister of defence: I will argue for the maintenance of the firing range at Lulworth. It is within the Nation’s interest to keep the army base; the British army currently holds its status, by closing the biggest base in the country would make a great change to the military’s practise training, due to the fact that the training areas, and techniques of the training would probably have to change, due to the different area which is very unlikely to have the same advantages of the current land. Reasons for the base been perfect for the MOD include its size. This is perfect for the type of work carried out there and can be one without disturbing surrounding civilians. The wild landscape also provides a good environment for which the tanks can be tested upon, as does its location; being close to the sea provides a perfect long distance firing range for the base. If the army did not have the land, they may need to move the base to a different country e.g. Germany in order to find a suitable base. This could cost a great deal and a replica area with similar characteristics may be difficult to find, or get hold of. There would also be a high cost in clearing the land for public use. The removing of unexploded shells would alone, cost and extortionate amount of money. This money could be spent on more worthwhile things, like improving already inhabited areas around the base and the country. There would also be a large cost of buying more land and issues similar to the evacuation of Tyneham elsewhere. The base also currently supports jobs for a wide range of civilians in the area. If the MOD base was the close, workers in the area would have to find alternative jobs; this could be difficult for workers if they wanted to continue in the same career, as there would only be a limited number of spare job positions at alternative bases in other parts of the UK, leaving a high percentage unemployed. The surrounding area relies on a great deal on the tourism industry, with increasingly wet summers, the army range provides an extra incentive for tourists to visit the local coastal district. Without this, the local area may experience a fall in the tourism income, especially if a larger number of unemployed army base workers attempt to find jobs locally – putting pressure on local businesses to compete. The Base’s land mainly consists of grasses growing wildly across the land with no use of pesticides or herbicides due to the fact that there is not farming of the land. This is fantastic for the biodiversity of the area, and allows a large variety of many different animal and plant species to thrive in the area e.g. the smooth snake. The soil is also infertile, as the land remains un-farmed. This means that it would take years in order for the land to return to the standards of which they need to be maintained at, if it was to be used for farming. This mean if the base closed, the land is likely to be use for industrial building work. 25% of the Dorset countryside is already developed, showing that the building on the base would contribute to unwanted building on the naturally beautiful coastline. The effect on the surrounding area may be an increase in visual, noise and air pollution, it would also contribute, again, to the decrease in tourism in the area. Safety is also an important issue to consider, many parts of the area are already open to the public at certain times. However, certain areas would have to remain closed if the shut down, due to the high risks of unexploded shells. This will defy the point of closing the base, as large areas would still have to remain private. The base already manages the safety of the land well, showing how it is much easier and safer to keep the area as it is. Many of the past residents of Tyneham are calling for their land to be returned to them, from the base. Tyneham is situated near Worbarrow Bay, is now a ghost village situated on the firing range and was commandeered in 1943. Returning the village to the remaining villagers, or their families would prove difficult for the residents, mainly due to the fact that the houses are still in the same conditions as in 1943, they have outside toilets, old fashioned heating systems and have now probably fallen into a state of disrepair; meaning the houses would have to be restored costing a vast amount of money. Overall, the area should be kept for military use, due to the current biodiversity of the area, the large expense of which it would be to change it, the effect of jobs an also the importance of the base to the country. For all these reasons, I think that the base is important enough to keep. more

Resolved Question: Is my mom's doctor putting her at risk for a heart attack?

I have always been pretty knowledegable when it comes to drug interactions, but I am not a trained physician. My mom has been on medication for high blood pressure for some time now. She also has high hormone levels. She more recently was prescribed Effexor. Even more recently her doctor has prescribed Adderall. I just do not understand why a doctor would prescribe a stimulant to someone who is taking medicine to control high blood pressure. Does this sound right? more

Voting Question: What are the risks of getting a cyst removed from behind the thyroid?

I am 24 yrs. old in good health. A CT scan showed that I have an egg sized cyst in my neck. The doctor I was referred to told me that surgery was risky because there is a RLN nerve that controls my vocal cords. If damaged in surgery I wouldn't be able to talk or breathe, either one. He was not comforting, all he said was that he was not god. ;( All I know is that it is behind my thyroid. My doctor has been just giving me options that I could choose from...but not acting like a doctor and telling me what as a trained physician what needs to be done.He tried getting a needle inside the cyst..if that is what it is...and its is solid.. Im changing doctors more

Resolved Question: New business ideas!?!?

Hi guys, i am looking to set up a small business after doing some sort of training but am struggling deciding what area to look at!? Preferably the risk wouldn't be to high and something that could help me build a good family business which after i invest my time in i could leave to my son. I am not looking so much for a "get rich" business just an area that isn't too complicated and i could just build a good sturdy business in with the required time and effort. More than anything i just want to give my son something that will really benefit him in life once he comes of an appropriate age (Only 6months old at the moment, but this gives me a good amount of years to establish something of worth, and could allow for failings lol) Thanks in advance guys, really appreciate it! more

Resolved Question: Can I still join the Canadian, British, or Australian Military?

I'm a junior in High School. My dad was a US airman for 21 years and I've been in both Navy and Air Force JROTC (though I'm not anymore). I've always been interested in the military and aviation as far back as I can remember. I was born and raised in the US, and I asked the same question about an hour ago. I love the US, and I love her biggest allies (Great Britain, Canada, and Australia), and I have no problem risking my life for the goodness of any of these fine countries. I want to move to any of these countries, or stay in the US, I'm not sure yet. I do have a record of Asthma. I don't remember the last time I've used my inhaler, though I always seem to get a new one. Like I've said, I've been in JROTC and have done PT (physical training) countless times (even a few times with a Marine!) without ever needing my inhaler. I can run a mile-an-a-half in 11 minutes without stopping, 70 pushups, 60 situps, stretching, all with no breaks.Of course, at the end of it, it does take me a bit longer to catch my breath than the others, but I can last without my inhaler at all. So, will I automatically be disqualified from enlisting OR being commissioned in the Canadian, British, or Australian militaries?? Or do I need a waiver? If so, how do waivers for those countries work? Also, can I even join any of these militaries as an American born US citizen? Even if I get granted citizenship, will I still be allowed? Thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: My previous question on convincing someone not to declaw?

I can't thank you all enough. I have been a wreck ever since I found out about this just yesterday. I have sobbed and wept so much. The kitten is only 10 weeks old, and was born with 3 legs. I have passed on a letter, and printed out all the resources/websites you guys referred me to. Here's a draft of my letter to this person (all names are removed as this is a public forum): Dear Mrs. x, I work with your daughter, y at z, and we’ve found we are both fond of animals and have shared many laughs and tender stories about our pets. Recently, y told me about her sister’s three legged kitten and it made me so curious that a few weeks ago I went to meet the kitty myself. She told me about your trouble with the kitten and how it runs about scratching your furniture and curtains. After y told me about this issue, I thought I could help with your problem by doing some research and sharing the experiences I had from my own cats. My chairs have been scratched as well. What I have learned is that Sticky Tape and sufficient scratching posts work wonders-they are truly great trainers, distracters and deterrents! Y also told me you were set to have a surgery done on your kitten tomorrow to have its joints and claws removed to stop it from scratching your furniture. I didn’t know enough about this surgery- what is done- what the risks are- what the proposed benefits are so I wanted to find out and now that I have I thought I must share this with you and Y. In de-clawing, the kitty’s toe joints are cut off, not just the claws. I thought it was just the nail- -deep down. It is not - by a long shot. It is the very knuckle that the nail grows out of. Declawing creates excruciating pain which is only temporarily helped by pain killers, but in some cases, the pain has been shown to last forever. This can have a lasting effect on their behavior. Most vets refuse to do this procedure because of the complications involved. The ones that do are doing it solely for profit. One person told me that "the kitten wakes up in such pain he throws himself around the cage, that's why the vet keeps them overnight. The strength of the pain killer they have to use the first night is the same strength doctors use on people dying of cancer. Some vets charge extra for pain killers." I also learned that this procedure is illegal throughout Europe. It is true that some animals do respond without any adverse negative effects - you have one cat like this. It is also true that different cats react differently, and you never know the complications that could arise in this kitty – which may mean more medical bills. I have a friend whose one cat was perfectly fine after this procedure but the other one, Max, became neurotic. He also developed many infections and ultimately my friend, Liz, ended up spending close to $1000 in treating these infections. Mrs. x, I’d like you to reconsider your decision. I am also attaching some materials on this issue. If you’d like, I’d be happy to give you some sticky tape, and some scratching posts. I have several extra left. I would also be happy to keep this kitten in my home and train until it is ready to come to your home. While you ponder on this issue, I would urge you to please postpone this surgery at the very least. I have worked as a volunteer at Animal Shelters for many years, and will be happy to talk with you more and share what I have learned – to help you find a solution for this scratching furniture problem. This kitten is already starting life with the huge disadvantage of one leg missing. So I hope you will reconsider. Please let me know of your choice. Thank you for reading this. more

Voting Question: Dog Separation Issues!?

I have a dog that has sep. anxiety. We've had a lot of luck controlling it the past several months (we got him in January). He routinely was alone for 3,4, or even 5 hours a day, with little issue until recently. At worst, he'd be panting and a little wound up when we first got back home. However, two weeks ago, we had to kennel him at our vet's for three nights while we went to Boston. The first week back, my girlfriend didn't have to work long hours, or work at all, even though I was working 7am-4pm. This week though, my girlfriend started her new job for the summer, forcing her to work from 9am-6pm. That made this is the longest he's been left alone (when she leaves at 9am till I get back around 4pm) so about 7 hours. We failed to crate train him the first week we got him in January, as he destroyed two different types of crates. Instead, we gave him the living room and a hallways, closing all other doors. I got home yesterday, and found that he had opened the kitchen door and got out on our back porch (we're on the 3rd floor). Again, today, he did it again, this time jarring loose his collar that keeps him from barking incessently. It didn't seem to be out of desperation to see us either, as his kong was out there on the back porch, even though we leave it in the living room. Tomorrow, we have to go through this again! Thankfully, Friday is the last day my girlfriend won't be able to come home for a 2-3 hour break from 11ish to 1 or 2ish. It will break up his alone time nicely. Anyways, as this 7hr alone time is unavoidable for the next 3 days, should I leave the kitchen door open and let him go through the doggy door out to our 3rd floor porch? Or should I put a small lock on the door and risk him destroying the door just to get out there and catch some rays? And before you say "you choose...a new door or a new dog to replace the one that jumped off the porch", remember this...he likely had ALL day out there the past two days. And I came home to him as if nothing had happened. I feel that the combination of him being kenneld for a few days, along with us being gone for as long as we've ever left him alone led him to get a tad more worked up. more

Resolved Question: Neighbor troubles, Need advice on what I should do about the situation.?

Okay, so my boyfriends neighbors have 2 little boys. Their ages range from 3 to 5 years old ( the three year old looks like if he is being potty trained). So lately we have been finding the little boys under wears in my boyfriends backyard. At first we were a little puzzled by this so we just picked them up (using gloves of course, I also noticed that one of them had a BIG brown stain on them and my boyfriend and i figured that maybe it was mud or one of the our dogs poop got smeared on it) and threw them back over. We forgot about this thinking that maybe they were hanging their little boys underwear on the fence and the wind blew them over to our side. ( they have a pool, which would explain why they would hang their underwear) So now it's happened twice or three times in a week, it's been happening for 3 weeks now, that we find dirty *** underwear in my boyfriends backyard. I know for a fact now that it is not mud or dog feces on the underwear because the third time that i threw their shitty underwear back i smelled human waste. How do I know it was human waste? because human waste and dog waste smell COMPLETELY different. I have had dogs around me since I was a toddler so I'm able to distinguish those two smells. It's MORE than enough that we have **** filled underwear in the back yard but when i take my dogs outside in the back yard I have to make sure that I do dirty underwear checks or else my boxer or my jack russell will grab it and run around with it. To make matters worse is the whole fact that if I forget to check for underwear or it's to dark to look for them than I risk having my boxer play with the underwear and than he tracks whatever is on him back into the house( both of the dogs are indoor dogs and I know that he tracks in dirt and whatever is on the plants into to the house but frankly I rather have dirt in the house than human feces!!). We shouldn't have to do checks for underwear in my boyfriends OWN back yard it's so STUPID! and GROSS! I don't care if it is little kid feces it is still dirty germ filled feces!! So tonight I let the dogs out and I couldn't check for underwear because it is pitch black outside and like I told you before, my stinky curious dog got an underwear (with **** and piss on it, I could smell it!!!) and brought it to the door. I had take him a bath at 1:00 in the morning!! I don't know what we should do? Do we tell them what's going on? How do I tell them? I know for a fact that these are the neighbors who are throwing the underwear because I saw one of the kids ( the five year old most likely) throw this underwear to our side. My boyfriends neighbors from the right have no kids so we know it is not them. Please give me advice on how I should go about this situation.?? more

Resolved Question: Can plasma donation workers steal your social security number?

I'm a 21 year old college student. I recently went on a short trip(had to take off work) and spent a little more money than I expected. To earn an extra $80.00 in two days, and help suffering patients with immune system deficiencies, I decided to donate plasma. The first time went smoothly. The second time, I seen a shady character who is kind of weird/stalkerish working as one of the people who sticks you with the needle and works the machine. These people are just regular people with little to no medical training. The weird part is, this person said that they live in another state when I chatted with them(chatted with the person on a local sports team website). I am not sure if this person seen me, but if I was seen, I am worried that my social security number might be at risk. There are folders with each donor's information. When donating, you are asked the last four digits of your SSN at the machine. I am wondering if anyone knows how easy it would be for an employee to access your information, and if the folder even contains my entire SSN(like I said, they just ask for your last four digits when you sit at the machine). Thanks for your time, i'll be happy to clarify on anything you need, in order to get the best answer. more

Voting Question: Teen summer job - suggestions please?

I'm 16 years old, male and I need a job that doesn't require cooking or anything with food. I get sick quite often(weak immune system) and I don't want to risk getting the food tainted. I got fired from my last job(food industry) within a month because I got sick 2 days in a row and I called in sick (as it instructed in the training manual "if you are feeling sick don' trisk geting the customer sick" and I offered to show him doctors note and everything but he still decided to fire me). I'm really good at stuff with technology and engineering type of stuff, I got very good grades in math, physics, computer programming, technology design stuff like that but none of this is relative to any jobs I can find (Mcdonalds, Burger King etc.). I just finished grade 11 and I need a job for the summer preferably related with computers and all that or somewhere more back area like just stocking shelves. Definitely no fast food. Any ideas? more

Resolved Question: Whining pup at the crack of dawn...What to do? Suggestions?

So I get that puppies whine (I've had LOTS of dogs), esp mine that was taken away from its mother SO young (at 6 weeks when this lady told me he was 8 going on 9). I know he wants company and wants affection. We've had him for about a week now. The first 2 nights were the worst since he was "away" from us- meaning he couldn't see us, than i transferred him into a box that was only big enough to sleep in and move around comfortably (crate like idea) and put him next to my side of the bed so he could smell, hear and see me, I've put in there a clock that ticks, in a pillow case along with clothes that smell like my husband and I and his bones he can chew on (hes teething) and his little teddy he likes to chomp on. I've been getting up to let him out to pee/poop on the paper every 2 hrs on his papers, he goes! its great! Its taken us LESS than one week to potty train him!!! (He goes all on his own during the day ON the paper) Hes a pom pup and they've been reputable with having difficulty house breaking. So with that- Im thankful. About 5 am every morning- he'll whine and whine and whine and whine and whine etc etc etc. So thinking that he has to potty again, I take him to his papers- only to have him sit down and stare at me for a bit than run off to play with my older golden mix girl, or I'll put him on his papers and he'll just walk away and find my other dog to play with (course shes wonderful and still sleeping :) ). I dont want him to "own" us, and let HIM set the time that we have to wake up every day. How to I get him to just sleep till we get up (minus the potty breaks). I dont want to leave him unattended in fear that he might eliminate where he wants ( when he makes it on the paper its because we're supervising him) and I dont want to take that risk to set him up for failure because I want to sleep past 5am. What to do...? Am I missing a step here? Any one else had experience with this? What has worked for you or what did you do? I understand that everyone/dog is different... I've had MANY dogs/puppies but never one that would not stop whining- I guess you could say I was real lucky ;) They were all content to just sleep :) Thanks in advance fellow yahoo ask'ers!!Kayla- From what I understand- The whining is suppose to be attention seeking, isnt hitting the crate giving him attention? even if its bad? wont he just whine more? Arnt we suppose to ignore unwanted behavior and not reward it? Hrmm...idk...never heard of that before... Kips mom- whats wrong with paper? Its cheap and handy. Like I had mentioned I dont want to let him play at 5 in the morning unattended because I want to sleep. If he has to go he'll go immediately- I HAVE stood there (maybe not for 30 mins, but for 10) and if he needed to go he'll go within like a min (he done that every time I've taken him to potty) during the day he'll do it on his own too. Hes pretty smart for such a little guy.Bones = the teeny tiny soft squishy flexible nylabones- I got it so he wouldn't chew on our fingers and clothes and buttons etc. I do leave him alone when he whines, but he doesn't stop. I suppose I will have to start getting up at 5 too. Maybe this behavior will pass when hes if FULLY potty trained and I dont have to crate him any more (I do plan on getting a REAL crate today :) )Some of you asked why paper- To answer, its because I dont live in the best neighborhood, let alone island (oahu) where ppl in my neighborhood steal/poisen/hurt dogs. If it were you- Im sure you'd do the same with keeping them inside- Our place is big enough :) My golden girl gets taken out to potty or uses the doggy door where she can go when she needs, pom pup is too young (not all shots yet). She we leave them in during the day- so they can go on the paper in the wash room. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I hope you'd be too :) more

Resolved Question: What are the National Guard statistics for combat deployment?

I was just wondering what kind of websites there are that explain the percentage of combat deployments over seas between the National Guard and Regular Army. Someone asked me today if there was more of a risk in the Army of deployment than the reserves, they wanted to know exact statistics that I could not explain. Also, I explained that even if 80% of any states guard is deployed, that deployment is different than actual combat, just because I could be deployed, It may be in our country somewhere, basic training, hurricane relief, etc. am I correct on that term? more

Resolved Question: 8 week old wolf dog pup. People with at least a couple years of experience please.?

I am asking for advice from those who have had a couple years of experience with wolf dogs. I have done tons of research and just have a few more questions. She is a high content wolf dog. 1) Would it be ok to take her to a dog park to socialize her with other dogs? 2) Would a choke chain be good for training her to walk beside me? 3) I know you can't train these dogs completely and they'll do what they want, when they want, but is there any way to encourage her not to chew on things in the house? 4) What are some specific, good raw meats to feed her? Anything I should mix in like vegetables? 5) Is this food good for her? I feed her raw beef with a few vegetables and a little bone powder mixed in, and she'll get a raw chicken leg. 6) I've read that wolfdogs do not do well in cars, mine seems to be fine. She'll curl up on my lap and sleep, stick her head out the window, and she seems to love riding in the back of my truck. Will she get car sick when she gets older? Or does it seem like she'll remain the same? 7) If I socialize her around a lot of little kids while she is young will she remain good with them, or will there always be a risk? I am still very careful when she is around them, but she does very good. She licks their face and is calm while they run around screaming. I will always take caution with this situation, but how much cautions should I take? 8) Is it a good idea to take her places with a lot of people? 9) How should I socialize her to fire, smoke and water? 10) Her nails are ground down to the whick, will they grow longer? Is this painful or will it become painful for her? If so is there anything I can do for it? Any answers for any of these questions would be greatly appreciated. I want to make sure I do everything I can to give her the best life she can have. When her nails grow longer, will it be necessary to clip them? So should I handle her feet a lot so she'll be more susceptible to it? more

Resolved Question: Advice for a new officer who really dislikes his current department...?

I am 25 yrs. and got my first job as a police officer about a month and half ago. It's actually the smallest borough in the county and its smack in the middle of two high crime neighborhoods (West philadelphia being one of them). Because its so small they don't have the funding to hire full time officers (i.e. the only full-time officer is the chief) and therefore I receive no benefits, but approx. 30-40 hours weekly. I received a little more than 100 hours of training and now I am completely by myself with no partner since we only run one officer per shift there. Keep in mind this is my first police job and I am fresh out of the academy. The neighboring township backs us up but only when they are not getting slammed and if its a high risk situations. As an example, I received a shots fired call at about midnight a week ago and the neighboring township was getting so slammed they had no one to back me up so I had to go by myself. Luckily, it was an unfounded call. Anyways, I really hate going into work which is a horrible feeling since I have always wanted to be a police officer since before I could remember. I get really lonely there because I work overnights and there is no diners or stores open with the exception of one gas station. It is overall just an awful, low budget department to work for. I would really like to just stick it out for awhile until something else comes along, however I really feel my safety is being compromised because I am so new and have no one to refer to on the streets. Most of the bigger departments in the area, have their guys with an FTO for a minimum of 4 months. I really would like to quit, however I don't want it to put a permanent scar on my employment history as an officer. I think that the chief there would probably give me a negative recommendation to any department I apply to for leaving so quickly. Suggestions??? I really feel like I am between a rock and a hard place here. more

Resolved Question: Do you read these English writing easily?

I am a Japanese high school student. Following writings are materials which I had to translate into my mother tongue when I was taking a mock exam. ===== Some researchers conducted clinical trains of new procedures before sufficient evidence was available that the procedures were capable of producing a scientific or medical benefit. These advances helps medical science to develop tests that, in turn, have enable doctors to advice their patients on the potential risks of such genes for themselves and for their children. To cut the string of a parcel, however complicated the knot, is something a lady would not do on any account. ===== This mock exam, in fact, is for students who want to have acceptance for Tokyo university, university which has the smartest student in Japan. So I can say that many Japanese students have difficulties to translate these into our language. Does English speaker read these easily? There seems to be a lot of mistake I made because of my poor skill to type the keyboad... I feel so sorry. Correct erros that they point out. more

Resolved Question: Is Healthcare a right or a privilege?

Should healthcare be available to everyone regardless if they can pay or not? Should the govt be responsible for the healthcare of all? Can you ask a doctor to be paid less yet still carry a full panel of patients. Obamas plan will drastically cut the money to providers and Doctors. I am sure that many people who now would like to go to Med school will think twice if they will not make the wage current doctors are. Why would someone want to train for 10 years to be paid what the gov't says your worth? Why would a doc want to put himself in risk of malpractice law suits for the lousy reimbursement of gov't payors. more

I am 15 and currently playing Reserve football and Under 17 football and I want to be cleared from Under 17's to continue to play football for reserves. For the simple fact is that I'm not getting a fair go out at the Under 17 team and a Reserve team approached me and asked me to play. I have been training since January with the Under 17 team and only played 2 out of 7 games this year. The Under 17 team is now saying that I'm not allowed to play for the Reserve team because it's a risk to the club.! more

Resolved Question: Can i get socail security during pregnancy?

I'm pregnant and have a heart problem called prolonged qt. My heart problem is making my pregnancy high risk because the chances of me having a fatal arrhythmia are greatly increased due to the stresses of pregnancy on my body and has been enabling me to work since 4/09 and cant return until 12 months after the birth which is due 12/02/09. I was 5 weeks when the doctor signed me out of work. Before I was signed out I had just been signed on for a new company and only worked for them for 4 months. I help train the soldiers right before they leave for iraq. Resolved Question: Is it Possible to Tame a 4 year Old Aggressive Iguana?

My neighbors gave me a 4 year old iguana (very beautiful) and he is so mean. He hasn't bitten anyone yet but I dont want it to ever get to that point. Everyone knows that I am good with training animals but I have never had any type of experience with a lizard. I researched this and I found that they could be tamed but... Is He Too Old Now? I dont want him to spend the rest of his days caged up. I want him to be able to interact with my other pets (pit-bull and 2 cats) and my children wants to hold him so badly. I need to know is my safety at risk if I made an attempt to try? If so my children would just have to watch him from a distance.Thank you for the tip as I am aware that they carry salmonella disease but if tamed it will not bite but if it cant be don't ill just keep him in his tank were he is accustomed and comfortable. I'm not on a quest to give him away. The person that gave him to me was not taking care of him properly. He gave me a tank to put him in, a rather large water bowl, and told me to feed him kale. I am unable to buy him the proper cage right now so I open the lid when my children are asleep and allow him to walk around my house. I put my cats outside and my dog in his cage, pantry or the childrens bedroom. I feed him Kalard greens mustard greens cabbage, white grapes bell peppers and sweet potatoes. Ive only had him for a week so Im learning as fast as I can. I plan on taking him to the vet when my husband gets paid and is looking on craigslist and thriftstors for a possible comfortable iguana cage so he can feel at home. I want whats best for him like I want whats best for all of my pets but like i mentioned before I never ever showed any interests in lizards and know nothing about him. If I am doing something wrong please email me @ toyaluvkitties@gmail.com. I want Bashekiee to be happy. more

Voting Question: How do I solve these pet issues please?

My Yorkshire Terrier puppy is about three and a half months old now. With regards to toilet training, if I put down newspapers for her, she will chew the newspapers and do her business underneath them, or move them and do her business next to them or do her business in another room. I am not able to take her outside early enough in the morning, because she wakes up and does her business before I wake up. I also tried a cat box with cat litter but that didn't work. The crate won't work because contrary to other puppies, she does her business inside her sleeping area. I am not able to catch her in the action doing her business, so that I can use the recommended tone of voice etc, she is too quick for me. If I take her outside to do her business, she will enjoy herself outside for ages and the minute I bring her inside that is when she will do her business, but she is too quick for me to catch her in time. With regards to biting, she loves to bite hands, toes and noses. I smack her very hard each time she does this, and this smacking helps short term but not long term. She bit my nose until it bled the other day, and I smacked her really hard, only to get bitten again on the same spot a few days later, which drew blood again. My nose hadn't even healed yet from the first bite. She bites during play, so to her it's being affectionate. As soon as I get the wall and gate around the house secured properly, I will attempt to train her to go through the cat flap (I have six cats all double her size). Until then I can't risk letting her go outside unattended because she tries to run into the street and also the neighbors dogs come into my garden. In the meanwhile I take her outside on her leash, because otherwise I can't catch her when she tries to run into the road, she is faster than me. I bought her a doggy handbag to carry her in so I can take her with me in public, but she cries to get out of it, even though it has netting on both sides for her to look out of and see everything. Do you think the bag was a waste of time or is there another way to get her to like being inside it? more

Resolved Question: I cannot get my husband to follow through with aggressive german shepherd's training!?

You may have seen my previous posts about my german shepherd Giada. We got her when she was a pup from a backyard breeder (I did not know much about them before recently and could not leave her after I saw her. It was xmas day in WI and he had her out in the snow with no shelter or bed area.) My husband promised to train her well as I was afraid of large dogs and my son had been bitten by a neighbors gs that required staples and stitches when he was 3. She is incredibly smart. We did not even have to house break her, she knew to go outside and obeyed most commands. He refused to go to a trainer saying he would do it. She began to get aggressive towards other dogs and small animals, sometimes he would try to get her to stop charging our windows and going nuts but other times he encouraged it saying it was good to have a guard dog. She eventually became aggressive towards children and finally to my son. I put my foot down and took her to a trainer who could help her aggression problem, he got so mad he threatened to undo anything she learned saying that the time she lunged at my son was a fluke. I had to have our vet sit down with him and explain that it was train her or put her to sleep. We went to a very good trainer for months, I was following it to a t and she was making great improvements but I noticed with him she was her same old self. He loves this dog to where he treats her like a person and does not understand that I love her just as much but care more about her being balanced and not hurting anyone. Finally when we were with the trainer she outed him and said she could tell by Giada's behavior that he was not following the training. Now 2 yrs later we have a baby and no one will take the dog. EVERY trainer, shelter, rescue and even our own vet has recommended she be put down because of her extreme aggression. They all reason that if she were to get out she could hurt our own children or others. I have been still following her training and have to keep her in a 10x12 kennel outside or muzzled. I am finally healed after childbirth complications and can walk her but get no help from him. I dont want her to be put down because he wont help with her training but I do not want to risk anyone's safety. I work in the Pediatric ICU and have seen enough dog bites. Any tips for how to get him to help? He does love her but wont put in the effort and then tries to act like Im the one who just wants to put her down. His family and our friends have tried to explain to him that she nees to go or he needs to do something but nothing works. Every time we talk to an expert or dog behaviorist he does the triaining for a couple days and then its back to business as usual.By the way..Thank you for answering and reading all this, it is longer than expected. Thank you more

Resolved Question: Does It Necessarily Follow That If You Are "Intelligent" That You Should Do "Well" In Life, or Be "Prosperous"?

I am 47 years old, male. Growing up I got straight As in school, and in college, mostly As. I have taken an IQ Test, shows I'm around 130. Countless teachers, and other authority figures and many people have said "you are very intelligent". Now this is awkward for me to ask this question, but it is important to me. I don't want to come off as some kind of a braggart or anything. I AM NOT. I am merely reporting the feedback I have received all through my life regarding my intellect. So please do not think those thoughts. Now here is my problem/issue. I have been, by society's 'standards' an abject failure, regardless of my high intelligence. I have struggled all my life, financially and otherwise. I never got married. When I graduated College I entered the field of broadcasting, and was mildly successful, but was forced to leave the field, due to 'medical, well psychological reasons', in my best interest. So I never went back to the field I trained for, and just had odd jobs throughout my life. Then I developed depression in my early 30s, and I still have it. I also have anxiety to a degree. I also had OCD, but pretty much got over that. I have been in counseling for 15 years, taken a ton of pills, but nothing ever changes for me. It doesn't get worse, but I can never seem to improve my lot in life, despite my efforts. One therapist I had said my mental illnesses are greatly obstructing your apparent great abilities and intellect. She was and is right on, in my opinion. It seems a lot of so called intelligent famous people had mental illness. Think of Ernest Hemingway, a genius, who had severe depression, and committed suicide. Actually, statistics have shown people with a higher IQ have a greater risk of suicide. Why is this so? Do we have a greater 'awareness' of the world around us...the 'true reality'? You've heard the saying 'ignorance is bliss'. I agree 100%. I have seen a lot of ignorant people, but boy almost to a man they are all happy or at least not depressed. Now I am not saying I wish I was ignorant, I am what I am...but let's get back to my question. If you are intelligent, should it then follow you should do well in life, or have money, etc etc. I think not. Because, lol, you see a lot of dumb people out there who do very well in life. It seems intelligence alone is not enough. There are a lot of other factors that seem to determine how well you do in your life. Persistence, determination, among others might actually be more important. I am not looking for sympathy. I do feel bad about how my life has gone and I continue to fight to make something of it, which is good. My so called 'high intelligence' has gotten me nowhere in life. Yes, you could say the mental illness stopped me or impeded me, but is it the case of the chicken and the egg thing? Think about it. There are people with mbas working at McDonalds(kudos to McDonalds employees, lol). Just an example. So what's your opinion on the matter of the relationship between intelligence(or the lack of it) and success in life. A good philosophical question I think, and maybe your answers might glean something that may help me I haven't considered before. more

Resolved Question: How can I improve this?

Beginning of my first chapter : “Elliot, get over here,” I said grimly. “We’ve got a problem.” I picked my harness up off of the dusty, wooden floor and quickly put it on. “Mo, what’s going on?” I hissed into the tiny microphone embedded in my silver bracelet, watching Elliot struggle to buckle his harness. “The artifact is being moved. Now,” she replied. Through my earpiece I could hear the quiet hum of computers and her fingers frantically tapping keys in the background. “Now?” I exclaimed, searching the empty warehouse for any signs of movement. “They’re supposed to keep it here for two more hours! Why are they moving it now?” Momoka’s words echoed what I had just figured out, “They know we’re here.” “Mo, figure out how they’re transporting the artifact, please,” I said into my bracelet. “Report back.” Suddenly, an alarm began to wail and the lights on the warehouse walls began to flash red. The heavy sound of footsteps echoed down the dark hallways “What’s the plan, Alexandra?” Elliot asked, running his fingers through his tousled brown curls. He was nervous. I closed my eyes and tried to tune out the alarm’s persistent wailing. Inhaling deeply, I visualized the warehouse. The warehouse was two stories high. The first floor had eight windows, two per wall. The second floor had no windows, and the ceiling was solid and metal. The area surrounding the warehouse was deserted. The land was flat, except for the hilly turf that led down to the bay. “Alexandra,” Elliot whispered, gently shaking my shoulder. “Shouldn’t we move?” I ignored him and scrolled through different scenarios from our training in my head. They wouldn’t risk moving such a precious artifact by car. There wasn’t anywhere to land a helicopter or plane. That left the bay. “Look out!” Elliot screamed. My eyes snapped open as two burly men entered the room. One grabbed Elliot and the other lumbered towards me, jeering. “You’re pretty cute for a spy,” he giggled girlishly before attempting to grab my arm. I lashed out, angrily kicking him in his flabby stomach followed by a punch to his scarred face. He fell with a soft thud on the floor, and I grinned. “You’re pretty fat for an evil henchman, so I guess we’re even.” I turned to see how Elliot was doing. The bigger of the two goons had attacked him and he was a better fighter than my thug. It took Elliot a few more seconds until there was a second muffled thump as Elliot’s attacker joined his friend on the ground. Elliot comically flexed his muscles and I rolled my eyes. “Come on, Mr. Macho. I know where the artifact is.” more

Resolved Question: Suicide Questions - Pros and cons.. advice needed thanks.?

Just wondering of some of the pros and cons of suicide. I know the obvious, its a one way decision- you cant come back, You hurt those around you that you care for, it can leave a mess for someone to clean up, which isnt very fair.. Thats the cons. The pro's are that you cease to exist. Sure you are not alive but nor are your problems or dreary life, you can get the biggest loan that a bank or loan shark will give you, give it through some untraceable form to someone you love as a sweetner then not have to pay the bank back. How many times can you get one over the bank like this? anyway, . I know there are more but to me they are the basic fundamental ones. Ok.. to eliminate the issues regarding not wanting to hurt others emotionally through your suicide how is this as a method , what say someone was to buy a small boat with an engine, take it to some remote location where no-one was around and had some very deep ocean nearby. take a few fairly large concrete blocks and a large strong fishing net and some strong drugs. Drive it out to the deepest part of the ocean untill the petrol had nearly run out, stop the boat for a minute, encase yourself and the boat in the net and attach concrete blocks to the net. Take some heroin or strong pleasant painkiller relaxant so you dont have a panicky death then drill a hole in the boat so that it will sink in about 10 minutes, when the herion had started to take affect.. Then you lie back, get high and say goodbye. The boat sinks, the net and attached concrete blocks take you and the boat to the ocean floor with no likely discoverable evidence. Because you are as high as kite you dont even really know if its real the hallucinations of the drug. It won't matter anyway. As far as everyone is concerned you went missing on holiday. Sad, but hey, everyones got to go at some point.. In this case you wouldnt be found, nor would your boat, so you are going to pretty much just vanish off the face of the earth. Previously you told people you were going on a holiday to an unknown destination but didnt appear back home. Sure there will be grief when eventually death is assumed but there will be no grief, guilt or bad feelings associated with an obvious suicide. To eliminate the evidence of the car that towed the boat to its launch location and subsequent search of the area, risking discovery of the suicide you are trying to hide, you could deliver the boat to the area a few weeks before actually doing it, then make your way by other untraceable means back to the boat's location when you want to do the deed. What are the flaws in this plan? Interested to hear peoples thoughts also, I have heard paracetmol overdose etc is a horrible way to go. What are some good ways that leave no trace that you have done it and dont mean you have to endure jumping into a crocodile's den or similar.. Not thinking of doing it. Research for book. p.s. A subquestion from my last point. If we only live once, and the pain of being eaten by crocodiles etc is generally not a desired experience in life, what do you think of using the last choice in your life to experience such a thing? I mean you could look at it as a last challenge- Me vs two hungry crocodiles. Get REALLY HYPED UP think of some good strategies to beat them, research their weak points then just jump into a crocodiles mud pit and fight him to the death. Im sure the croc has the upper hand and will probably win, but you'd feel pretty good and maybe want to live life again if you beat the croc. Maybe watch steve irwin videos for two weeks straight and buy a lifesized model of a croc as a training tool for sparring. I'm not really wanting to be cruel to animials at all.. but I think crocs fight each other and have much more chance of killing their own kind than I would. If i win, I get the spoils of victory, if I lose the croc can have me for lunch. I think thats fair. Ok there could be a bit of pain involved if I lose but I think id be that hyped up that it wouldnt matter, and even I did feel loads of pain, that in itself is a new experience that would be interesting in itself and really only a once in a lifetime one at that and wouldnt last long before you fainted, died from blood loss or were consumed completely. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks.Well Im glad it amused you christine. For giving you such amusemtent all i ask is that you give me a bit more of a detailed answer to my questions. Dont worry, I dont hold you in any way responsible for any actions that anyone might take in relation to my comments..but please let me know whattyou honestly think in relation to what I have said.Christine can you describe to me in what way this is entertaining? Im a natually curious person and would like to know how you see it.. Cheers. more

Resolved Question: Will I lose weight doing this and how fast?

(I'm a 12 year old guy, about 105 pounds, it's not about the weight, more being fit and healthy and a bit skinnier). Monday: bowl of cereal and glass of water, 1.9km bike to school and back, 3-4 pieces fruit for lunch (not bananas), 2-3 pieces of toast (something like water or milk to drink) and maybe a pottle of yogurt, 5km slow jog in the afternoon, something like meat, veges and a bit of carb for dinner then 2 sets of my top amount of: crunches, push ups, squats and wall sits. Tuesday: the same but with a 2.5km faster run instead of 5km slow jog after school. Wednesday: the same but with sport training and maybe a light bike ride after school. Thursday: the same but with 20 minute fartlek run after school. Friday: the same but with 2.5km run after school. Saturday: sports in the morning then hanging around home or go out maybe, perhaps more calories in diet. Sunday: my rest day, the same as saturday but no sport. Would I lose weight with this? How fast? What can I do to improve it? Please don't tell me to not do it, I just want to slim down a bit and get fitter not starve myself or put my health at risk, I'm trying to GET healthier.I CAN keep it up for that long, I'm already quite fit, the program is based on what I CAN do."Sport" is soccer. more
